Ugbrooke Country Estate
Reviewed 16 June 2012

We stayed at Ugbrooke for 3 nights as part of our honeymoon, it completely blew us away!!
I can honestly say that the photos do not do it justice, it really was one of our highlights of New Zealand. The house, the amazing views, fantasic hosts Alex and Peter and the most amazing food. We were very sad to leave Ugbrooke and would love to return there someday.

Ugbrooke House is a stunning looking property and house situated amongst the vineyards. The hosts Alex and Peter were incredibly friendly and helpful and Alex's evening meal was of restaurant quality. The interior of this historic house is beautifully furnished and is in excellent condition and the rooms and bathrooms were impecaccably clean. We had a memorable stay at Ugbrooke House, it is like stepping back into the 1800's but with the present day service and comforts. Well done Alex and Peter, you are doing a great job.

From the moment you turn up the tree-lined driveway to the fond farewell you will be thoroughly and utterly spoiled by Alex and Peter. Kate and I are in the throes of Ugbrooke withdrawal symptoms - will we recover? We had the best time ever as they say in Canada! Thank you for the delicious food, the ever so comfortable beds and letting us join in the evening feeding of the livestock. Ugbrooke's is a great place to be based for exploration of Picton and Blenheim and surrounding areas. We tried to pack in as much as we could in our two days but lots to come back and see so here's to our next trip. Choosing Ugbrooke's is a must for anyone visiting this sensational area of New Zealand. For us it was the best place on our whole trip - so thank you so much Alex and Peter.

Room Tip: Every room is a delight and you would be most comfortable in any one of them!

Alex and Peter, together with Tom and Nathalie, really give their guests the perfect stay...they are able to achieve the perfect balance between being there for you and at the same time giving you all the privacy and the freedom you need to enjoy your holiday...and the most impressive thing is that everything seems so smooth and natural even if it must be hard work to run such a big estate!
They are able to put different people together (we spent New Year's Eve and New Year's Day with them and with two other couples) creating a friendly and lively atmosphere, providing great food (we still remember the Sunday roast and the salmon!), excellent wine and interesting conversation.
When we booked our stay there from Italy we looked at the photos on the website, we read the reviews and we were like...ok...we're going to believe 50% of it....as it usually is with ads and things like that but.... this was the first time we actually got much more than what we saw!!!
If only it wasn't a 24-h flight from Italy....but maybe in 10 years time....we could celebrate our anniversary there!!!

I have to thank TA again for guiding us to an incredible place. Ugbrooke is one of those experiences we will always fondly remember. Truly a one of a kind place. We stayed 2 nights and were the only guests. Alex and Peter couldn't have been more accommodating and are such interesting, warm, genuine hosts. They have the ability to make you feel like family. We stayed 2 nights and had the absolute best nights' sleep. The estate and environs were beautiful and somewhat quirky (in a good way). I had a laugh watching their horses graze on the tees of the golf course. Lots of friendly animals to interact with and enjoy and loved the opportunity to wander through the acres of grapevines that surround the area. But the most striking memory we have is the dinner Alex specially prepared for us one evening. We were thinking of going to the famous Herzog restaurant in Blenheim, but I honestly don't believe we would have had a better meal than Alex's. After discussing the menu with us, she shopped at the local fish market and prepared a mussel soup with freshly baked bread (and olive oil made from a neighbors olive orchard) and pan fried trout. We enjoyed the wine we picked up from our visits to the local wineries that day to accompany the meal. We hated to leave Ugbrooke, and are grateful to have met Alex and Peter.

Room Tip: We loved our room with the french doors.

Ugbrooke was without a doubt the accommodation highlight of our New Zealand honeymoon.

Alex and Peter were wonderful hosts and made us feel like members of the family. Ugbrooke is conveniently located for visiting Marlborough's wineries and other attractions, but has a marvellously secluded feel. The house and grounds are beautiful and expansive -- the perfect place to get away from the world. Fantastic cooking from Alex and great value for money!

A must-stay if you're visiting the Marlborough region.

We were fortunate enough to recently get married at Ugbrooke and we couldn't have chosen a better venue. Alex and Peter were so welcoming and helpful with all the arrangements and helped make our day very special. The house itself is simply beautiful with period pieces and decor that make it a very restful and romantic place to be. This beautiful historic home has a wonderful atmosphere, gorgeous gardens and friendly pets too:) We can't wait to go back for our first anniversary and plan on going there for many more to follow. We can't recommend Ugbrooke enough.
