“Ugbrooke Country Estate”
Reviewed 27 April 2009

Ugbrooke was a fantastic find for us in Marlborough. My partners parents were over from the UK and we wanted to stay somewhere nice near the vineyards that had the feel of a luxury lodge without the pricetag. Ugbrooke was not only that, but also offered warm and welcoming hospitality. Alex and Peter made our stay a most enjoyable and friendly experience and we are looking forward to taking a bunch of friends back to Ugbrooke to enjoy more of the beautiful surrounds and Alex and Peter's hospitatlity.

This historic building was a bit tough to evaluate from the website, but absolutely charming! The lands around it are fantastically beautiful, and Peter and Alex make your stay perfect according to your every wish. They loaned us bikes so that we could do our own winery bike tour, dropped us off, picked us up, and made the best dinners we had during our entire stay. In fact, Alex's mussels were the best in the country, as far as we are concerned. The rooms were private and luxuriously comfortable, and had numerous thoughtful and lovely touches. We can't wait for the chance to go back!

This was one of the very best places we stayed during our holiday in NZ. Ugbrooke is a beautiful building in a very pretty location. Our room was first rate and felt like a step back in time to much grander times. It was our hosts though that really made our stay truly memorable. They couldn't do enough for us and it was more like staying with friends. Ugbrooke really was a highlight of our whole trip.

I wasn't sure what to expect upon arrival, as my girlfriend had booked our accommodation. I think maybe i had anticipated some average hotel, but boy was i pleasantly surprised!!! Ugbrooke is a charming, 1800's style, beautiful guesthouse, run by a wonderful couple who never cease to ensure their guests are happy. The view is breathtaking, the grounds are stunning, the house is charming, the rooms are grand and cosy, and the service is second to none. Ugrooke was an absolute delight... it was like staying in a charming English manor, complete with a bar with puffy armchairs and a dartboard. Can't wait to go back in winter!!!

At first we thought the vineyards were closer to Blenheim at the airport, but the truth is this little gem is right in the heart of everything. The drive from town is about 15 minutes but the scenery up into the Awatere Valley is something you will only ever see in the South Island - simply stunning.

Even though this was a personal trip my role within my business is to travel around the world visiting clients. I'm lucky to have stayed in some of the best hotels on offer to say the least. This hotel has something that not many offer....a couple of people running the place not only as a flawless hotel but also a home away from home. Nothing is too much trouble, the food is home-cooked & outstanding, the activities on offer are overwhelming, and the honour system if you choose to have a drink late at night is just one of the few things that stick in your mind about this well run place.

Every room is enormous with an en suite, they're clean, the grounds are well kept & most importantly the pool is the perfect temperature.

The only thing that I would recommend if you are going to stay here it to extend your stay an extra night. You won't regret it
