I took my wife and 6 friends for dinner to celebrate a milestone birthday in my wife’s life. It was a great surprise for her. It was a cold rainy Monday evening but the restaurant was lovely and warm with blazing wood burning stove on the go. The food and service were excellent, starters of prawns and soup, mains of pork belly, blue cod and ravioli all delicious. Local Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay and a Hawkes Bay Syrah complemented the meal. Desert was a wonderful chocolate cake made by one of our friends at the dinner, it was beautiful. All in all a very enjoyable evening and it made for a happily wife, therefore.... happy life!

We recently had a family dinner at this restaurant...it was a cold night and there were only 4 other patrons...luckily we were able to sit by the fire, which made the room seem a bit more hospitable.
A young waiter came to take the orders for 5 of us...he was unsure of most things on the menu and had to keep going to ask for advice...turned out it was his first night and they decided to train him on a quiet night. Well, I don't mind staff needing training, but dislike being a guinea pig...would have been better to have someone with him to help out.
We gave our orders and eventually received some food. their plates of chips were really yummy on a cold night while we waited for our mains, which took quite a long time to arrive even though the place was nearly empty...would not like to be there on a busy night. While it was nice food...the requested steak was not a Rib eye and was not "bleu"...it was medium and was Scotch Fillet. The other meals were OK. But we enjoyed what we got and had a pleasant night because we were together.

We have been to this venue before when it was called Raupo and been happy with our meal and service - but the first first visit under the new management was less than favourable.
Meals were very poor - both in the way they were presented on the plate and the taste - the ravioli in particular was like eating week old porridge - and the belly pork looked more like school dinners than a restaurant food. Disappointing !!

Good service, attractive decor with a lovely fire on a cold night. We enjoyed our confit duck with mushroom risotto and delicious desserts. Recommended.
