We also booked in July 2012 for Easter 2013, received an email on the 18th March stating Raymar is no longer able to accommodate you for Easter. I rang and couldn't get a satisfactory
answer as to why we were cancelled; their reply was "the public can cancel, so why can't I". We have minded Motels for 10 years and those that want to stay in business certainly wouldn't treat potential clients this way.

This group of bookings was from a Car Club whose reputation preceeded them. I saw it as a potential problem and elected to give plenty of notice and declined them.

Motels are not compelled to take whoever books - that's why they are called Guests and not Tenants.

I also have a responsibility to other Motel Guests who would have been sharing the Motel with them

Well if you are felling in a good mood, you might come here. but when you do there will be no one to greet you, and you pick up the key to this 1970's place from the office if you can find it. I let the next three guests in myself after arrived . Don't want Internet unless you are prepared to wait for the manager to arrive home about 5pm, when he does get home he will come around and welcome you .
Internet $5.for one day Don;t watch TV unless you like those arrangements where the TV is hanging off the ceiling.
There is a small kitchen separate, good for families. If you want budget [ Blenhein is absurdly expensive ] and you have children this place is fine, and near the centre . The sign says it all, Budget, workers rates, welcome,

Many inaccuracies in this Reviewers review. Raymar is in the 3 star budget bracket. We advertise as 3 star bracket and do a good job at that level. People like this reviewer see only the price $ 95. No other Motel in Blenheim is that affordable. All the Units have been refurbished in the last two years but don't expect four star and above - its not what we cater for. The Office is clearly sign posted and all keys are set up for the days Guests. The Reviewer didnt have to involve himself with other Guests. We dont camp in the Office- there is work to do. There is a free Guest phone to call Staff if they are elsewhere and dont hear the office bell. The instructions for use are with it. A simple call would have given the Reviewer access to Internet. No TVs hang from the ceiling , they are on secure corner shelves part way up the wall. All Units have kitchenettes and two large full Guest kitchens elsewhere. Not a fair review.

We booked in July 2012 for Easter weekend in 2013 .All seemed o/k until we received an email only 10 days out from booked in date that quoted,"Raymar Motel is unable to accommodate you at Easter "
As this is was a long weekend and a Omaka Air show on the same weekend ,we don’t now have a hope of any other accommodation.
After a heated phone call to them ,no help or answers why were given .Since I have found out that others were told the same .
Couldn’t even give them any rating and wouldn’t even book my dog in there ,would most likely give room to someone else anyway .

This reviewer has never been to Raymar. Unforseen circumstances meant the booking had to be cancelled. 2 weeks warning and apologies were given. No Motel turns down a 3 day booking unless its unavoidable. Its what we are in business to do. Six booked Guests simply never showed for their stays this month and the rooms were wasted. Guests are able to cancel without penalty 24 hours prior to a stay. Motels are allowed to cancel too. This Reviewer threatened a bad review if I didnt accommodate him.
Since then two other Guests have cancelled for the same dates this reviewer was to stay I had suggested to him I could call him if such a thing happened - he rudely refused. Those newly vacant spots have now been booked by others.

Staying in Blenheim was not something we had planned for our Christmas holiday, but a mechanical emergency changed things a bit. We found and booked the Raymar on an accomodation website an hour before we arrived. I thought that it was a bit odd that there was no one there to check us in etc. When we rang the owner, he essentially talked me through checking us in myself, over the phone! I admit to being a bit concerned about security over that, but he was very nice and friendly. Our room was clean, if a bit cramped, with room for up to 6 people to sleep. The owner came round a few hours later to make sure everything was fine and to apologise for not being there when we checked in. The only complaint I have is that there was no air conditioning - and the two days we were in Blenheim were stinking hot!
The place is a 2 minute stroll from the centre of town, it is basic, quiet, clean and cheap. The owner is lovely - very flexible when it comes to helping people out - he allowed us to check out, but leave our bags in the room while we sorted our car out, without charging extra. I would happily stay there again

Walls are paper thin, so don't expect to get any sleep during the night.
The unit was clean, but dated, and the fridge is one of the many noises that will keep you awake during the night.

Bed was comfortable.

Not worth the price.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the road.

Recently refurbished, Raymar was a comfortable, central two day stay for us. The Owner was pleasant and helpful and the facilites clean and warm. We travel extensively and know whats good or bad. We found this Motel in the Lonely Planet as a recommended stay and were not disappointed.

Room Tip: All the rooms are ground level. Rooms nearer the office get the most early morning sun.
