“A little piece of Marlborough heaven”
Reviewed 20 April 2014

We arrived early morning after an overnight ferry from Wellington to Picton. Tired from our trip this place was like heaven, Peter and Trish were great hosts, the room was ready early and Trish gave us a warm welcome.

Ryland Estate was wonderful and we were glad we had booked in for a few days. The grounds are glorious, the views like a postcard. We borrowed bikes one day for cycling to the wineries. Pete booked us into a restaurant near by (walking distance - the walk was one of the highlights) which did fabulous food and had lovely outdoor area to eat on a sunny evening. There were excellent kitchen and BBQ facilities at the accommodation, everything we needed. Breakfast was provided to prepare yourself and always fresh fruit available (the cherries were immense).

Thank you for a lovely stay.

We stayed here for one night Jan 30, 2014 as we were doing a self-drive tour of New Zealand and shared the two bedroom barn loft apartment with friends. Such a picturesque country estate...we could envision ourselves living here quite nicely, tending to the vast gardens and orchards. Peter and Trish were very welcoming. The accommodation was first rate . My husband was quite taken with the library collection in our sitting room. The bedrooms were quite comfortable and clean complete with delicious chocolates. Breakfast, the fresh ingredients are provided and you cook your own which was a novel idea for a B&B. Peter suggested we take in dinner at a local winery and we walked through the vineyards to the adjacent estate winery for dinner that night. It was outstanding. Thank you for your gift of a wonderful experience.

We had a great 3 night stay here in February. The room and bathroom were spacious and very clean, and there was also space to sit outdoors. Trish and Peter were very helpful regarding the area and knowledgeable regarding wineries. We loved our breakfasts and there was always plenty of fresh fruit. We borrowed the bikes to visit a few wineries, and we could even walk to one. We would certainly recommend a stay here, particularly if you want to be among the vineyards.

We stayed at Ryland Estate for two nights with my husband's parents and our two young children. It's a beautiful rural retreat and the perfect base for exploring the region.

The apartment is very tastefully furnished with good, spacious bedrooms and a great library of books - there were even some children's toys which our girls loved (although not as much as running around under the sprinklers in the beautiful gardens!). Peter and Trish are friendly and accommodating hosts, without being at all intrusive - the perfect balance. We had wonderful breakfasts with fresh eggs, and in the evening Peter gave us a selection of produce fresh from the veggie patch.

Rylands was a real highlight of our travels in New Zealand. Highly recommended.

We have just returned from a relaxing stay at Ryland Estate. Excellent rural retreat in beautiful garden setting. We enjoyed the ambiance of a beautiful bed sitting room and the extension to the garden via covered patio. Trish's breakfast was a tasty, fresh delight, Would recommend this property.

Room Tip: Stayed at cottage which is a simple 10 minute walk through the orchard and vineyard to Herzogs Resta...

We spent three nights at Rylands, whilst exploring the Marlborough region and Queen Charlotte Sound. Perfect place to stay with welcoming hosts and excellent facilities. The breakfasts supplied by Trish were outstanding, in particular the fruit from their own orchards.

We spent three days in Ryland Estate and experienced what we found to be true in most places in New Zealand: people are extremely friendly and considerate. This was the case also with Trish and Peter whose hospitality was far more that we usually experience especially in Europe: the breakfast was wonderful especially the fresh fruit from the own garden were exceptional, the large guest room with a patio almost luxury, and the location perfect, especially for us who decided to dine in the Herzog restaurant, just a 10 minute walk across the garden and the vineyards. All in all one of the highlights of our two week vacation in New Zealand.
