Downtown with an excellent restaurant. Please book the table in advance. We reserved but many guests were unable to get a table on a cold Tuesday night. Order the steak! Our room, the "Retro Room" was comfortable too!
- Free Parking
Room was a fair size, although not overly large. There was absolutely nowhere to store clothes so they had to remain firmly in the suitcase - not a problem if you are only staying overnight but it could be an issue if you are staying longer. Kettle etc provided but the socket was miles away from the kettle - style over practicality perhaps. The restaurant is excellent and the small bar is cute, if a bit quiet when we were there. Staff were lovely - very helpful in all respects. Great location in town and convenient for the wine trail.
i joked that it felt like a haunted hotel, but really the experience was great. perfectly located near stores and shops, this hotel was perfect for a night after touring vineyards. the restaurant downstairs was delicious and even opened earlier than normal the following morning to accommodate our early flight. the themed rooms were great, and the old feeling in the building was surprisingly comforting. loved the antique little touches to each room, as well as the different set ups among them. made us want to tour every room in the place!
We stayed here during RWC 2011 after deciding to treat ourselves following a trip (mostly in hostels) around the South Island. The hotel was not cheap, but you definitely get what you pay for - a lovely room (they're all individually decorated and I would have loved to have seen the others, as ours was great), quiet and central. The staff were very friendly and welcoming. We had dinner one night in the restaurant - again, not cheap but definitely worth the money. A brilliant meal and excellent service. Would definitely stay here again.
My fiance took my to Hotel d'Urville as a birthday weekend surprise - I had never been there before!
We stayed in the very comfortable and luxurious d'Urville Suite which was full of NZ history and very interesting!
Dining in the restaurant was awesome, probably the best Steak menu I have ever seen, and the Rolled Pork Loin dish was to die for! Will definitely be trying to cook those at home! For entree we had lovely fresh Bluff Oysters in the half shells with lime juice and tobasco sauce, and for dessert the most beautiful Honey cheesecake with bee pollen ice cream.
The bar made us some beautiful version of my favorite cocktails, A coffee liqueur martini, and an apple and fejoa one too!
Team that up with some bubbly and local pinot noir with dinner and we were set for the night!
I loved staying here, just a had a really nice time and definitely recommend!
If you love food, love wine and love relaxing then Hotel d'Urville is a must visit!
Great stay overall with no major complaints. We stayed in the Raja room (room 1). Beautiful room. While the bathroom looked great, there was no counter space to set your toiletries; the top of door frame is low and easy to bump your head for tall people; and the door is hard to lock. The wifi is cheap so get it if you need it.
