“A Great Place to Unwind”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 February 2012

Having spent three nights in Christchurch (and experiencing quite a number of rumbles from aftershocks even 1 year after the disaster), the Old St Mary’s Convent turned out to be a real heavenly place to relax and catch up with some good sleep. The property is a jewel and beautifully set in a lush garden with shady trees, fragrant lavender rows along the drive and walkways and the adjacent vineyards. My room was spacious with great garden views. Bed was very comfortable with clean and comfy sheets. Hannah and Maria are fantastic hosts and looked after my wellbeing and assisted in whatever I’ve asked or requested for so to make my stay a memorable one. Breakfast was great too, with a good selection of freshly cooked meals according to your liking. A well-stocked bar and their own wines are available to guests to round up the day exploring beautiful Marlborough. Words cannot describe the wonderful two days that I’ve enjoyed staying at the OSM convent and I would love to come back, one day, soon!

After a long drive from Mt. Cook, we arrived at the most special location on a beautiful day! We had no idea what to expect, but were instantly thrilled with what we saw. We happened to be the only 2 people there those 2 nights and so got the total attention of the manager of the property. Her name is Maria and she is a marvel. From keeping a perfect house, to beautifully ironed linens, elegant breakfast settings and freshly washed clothes hung out to dry. Maria showed me around her extensive gardens where she grows the fruit and veggies to use in the kitchen. We rode bicycles around the property and through the extensive vineyards and enjoyed a very large, bedroom with a fabulous bed and view on 3 sides of lavender rows, gardens and vineyards. This wonderful place is a must stay. Enjoy!

Room Tip: We only saw one, the one in stayed in and loved it, think it was #5. Lovely clean, new bathroom.

We had two nights at the convent in February and could have stayed a week. It is a charming location set among beautifully manicured gardens and the whole experience was a delight. We were looked after by Hannah and Maria and we wanted for nothing. Breakfast was wonderful and as the weather was so warm, we were able to use the bikes to cycle down to Cloudy Bay for a spot of wine tasting. Such a shame we only had two days!

We stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon in NZ and I wish we could have stayed longer. The convent is beautiful and the perfect place to relax. The room, the food, the wine, the gardens etc were all wonderful. Hannah and Maria were excellent hosts and full of suggestion for vineyards to visits and places to eat. We borrowed the bikes for the day and cycled around several vineyards despite the rain! Warming up in the evening next to the fire with a platter of delicious food prepared by Maria and several glasses their own wine was the perfect end to the day. We would definately return and hopefully the sun might shine so we could use the pool and fully enjoy the gardens!

We stayed here for two nights as part of our honeymoon travelling around new zealand. This place is amazing, the location, the surrounding gardens, the pool and the staff made it a remarkable venue.
They provide bicycles on site for free so it's perfect for cycling around the vineyards and breweries tasting.
It was all the little things as well that made this venue superb, the breakfast freshly cooked to your liking, the tea and coffe making facilities in ur room with a fridge near by full of water, drinks alcoholic and non, the relaxing evenings hanging out over a glass of vino chatting with guests and the owners about ur day

We loved this place and I recommend it to everyone.i wish we had stayed longer, it was exquisite.

We spent 2 nights at Old Saint Mary's Convent in December. It is a beautiful house with stunning grounds and a very relaxing place to stay, even in the rain! Maria and Hannah looked after us extremely well and we were so happy there we stayed in both evenings with delicious platters of food and a very well stocked complimentary bar. If we ever get to New Zealand again we will definately be rebooking.

After traveling from San Diego we arrived at this wonderful endearing place. Marie, the caretaker really took care of us. The accommodations were first class and worth monies spent. The breakfast and dinner cooked to order by Marie were out of this world. After arriving I found myself padding around in my stocking feet and enjoying a glass of the vineyard wine while reading next to a warm fireplace with Mainecoon cats looking on. Wish we could have stayed longer.
