Thoroughly recommended - we were made very comfortable by the managers and enjoyed a very nice meal there . Nice views and not far out of town.

Having read the latest reviews before writing ours, we totally agree with everything said by the last few reviewers and feel there really isn't much more we can add! You simply run out of superlatives because it is such a truly amazing place to stay. Sitting on the hilltop with stunning views, it is stylish, relaxing, comfortable and peaceful. Sarah and Dave are great hosts and the atmosphere is the perfect balance between being spoilt and pampered without too much fuss. 2 nights was not enough! My husband is lactose intolerant and Dave cooked us a special 3 course meal which was one of the best meals we had during our 6 week trip to NZ and Oz and that includes eating at the Sydney Opera House restaurant. We are still talking about that meal to our friends! We can only wish Dave and Sarah (and baby Noah) all the best with their new venture - they certainly deserve it. And we can only dream of going back.

My Wife and I stayed here for two nights in Jan 2011. We had planned to be more active during our stay, but after a busy few weeks travelling this was the place to stop, read, chill out and eat fine food.

Having planned to spend some time around the vineyards, we were also planning on eating out. But once we had sampled Dave's food (Sarah is also a chef, but was busy with a new baby), we rapidly adjusted our plans in order to stay in! A truely fantastic chef, Dave accommodated our requests with perfect understanding and produced two brilliant three course meals, as well as two divine breakfasts (breakfast is included in the room rate). On top of that, there is a constant avaliabilty of fruit, drinks and snacks. It is also all self catering if you should wish to make use of the perfectly appointed kitchen.

The whole environment is very relaxing with a pool long enough to do lengths, a spa pool, massage avaliable to book (which my Wife made use of) and sun loungers plus a BBQ area and oudoor dining. The internal space is fantastic, free wifi internet, national phone calls and afore mentioned bowls of fruit and soft drinks all just make being here so easy. There is nothing to worry about and nothing is too much trouble from the hosts. They strike the perfect balance of attentive service and allowing privacy.

The bed rooms are very comfortable with lovely bathrooms, and all very private. We were lucky enough to be staying here on our own, but should other people have been here I think we would have not felt imposed upon. It would be an absolute ideal place to book out for a group.

Can't praise BEC Lodge, Dave and Sarah enough, go there!

From the moment we arrived and saw the Bec Lodge atop a hill overlooking the vineyards, to lookking out at the pool, we were hooked on this place, The three night were not enough and my husband and I and our friend talk about th day when we can return. After 3 weeks of touring Australia and New Zealand, stepping into this home-like setting was heaven - cookies in the cookie jar, plastic glasses for our wine in the hot tub, a help yourself refirgerator and fruit. Dave and Sarah were the perfect hosts - both are chefs. Dave's gustation menu was heads above that of what we had at Herzog Winery the next evening. - and less expensive! We grew to love the homemade fruit and yogurt parfaits for breakfast. We didn't miss a TV at all. Dave and Sarah had helped us via email to book a wine tour and other acctivities when we were there. There was nothing I would improve about the experience - it was well worth the money. There is no better way to enjoy the Marlborough wine region than to stay here.

BEC Lodge management has changed in the past 6 months--so do NOT rely on old reviews. Dave and Sarah have taken over the management of BEC and WOW is the best word.
First, the lodge sits on a hill just outside of Blenheim with great views. Inside the Lodge is warm and very inviting. I have never seen a B&B like this. You will not be disappointed.
We made one big mistake. We were visiting the wineries all day and Dave was e-mailing our guide whether we wanted to have him prepare dinner. We turned him down and what a HUGE mistake that was. Dave and Sarah are incredible chefs. Our breakfast was the best any of us have ever had--and I have traveled the world. DO NOT turn down Dave's offer to cook dinner. Also, allow a lot of extra time to enjoy his breakfast--like at least 1 hour more than you normally allocate. You will not be disappointed.
If I lived in New Zealand, I would go back in a heartbeat. Do NOT miss BEC Lodge, you will be thrilled.

We booked into Bec Lodge as our Christmas present to ourselves. It was fairly expensive but sounded like just our kind of place. We both expected something like an English country manor house. Very grand.
We were picked up at the airport by a driver from Marlborough tours, not the hotel itself. I knew we were out with Marlborough tours the next day and thought perhaps they were actually the same Company with different trading names. Not so. They were just doing Dave & Sarah (the owners of Bec lodge) a favour. We were informed that they would not be there to meet us on our arrival, or to prepare the degustacion dinner the following night, but that Dave would be there to cook our breakfast the next day. I was a little disappointed until I found out that the reason was that Sarah was currently in labour. My disappointment was replaced by amazement that Dave thought he would get in to make breakfast the following day. No chance!!
We arrived at the lodge and it wasn't the grand manor house we expected and I was a little hesitant. However the welcome was warm and the accommodations certainly did not disappoint in any way. Our room was very comfortable and clean and had the tea coffee making facilities and bathroom sundries you would expect. Next to our room was a small office with a fridge. The fridge was stocked with soft drinks and fruit - all complimentary.
Our room was the Chagall suite (I asked for this room). I did get the chance to check out the mountain view room and wish in hindsight that we had gone for that. It was bigger and had a walk in robe.
There was another couple staying who proved to be very entertaining dinner companions. Dinner was prepared by a relief chef and friend of Dave and Sarah. It was wonderful. I felt a little guilty at one point before dinner when she was serving us wine and had to clarify if it was "help yourself". She assured me that she was there to serve us, we were on holiday.
Dave and Sarah had a baby boy during our evening meal!!!
My husband and I both needed to work while we were there and needed the internet. There is WiFi in the lodge and it was fine for what we needed to do. My husband needed a landline and Dave was more than happy for him to use the number for the lodge (incoming of course)
As promised Dave was there the following morning to prepare breakfast. He told us he had got home from the hospital around 12.30 the previous night. Noone could believe he was there to cook for us. Clearly he is truly committed to the venture.
Overall the stay was fatanstic. Nothing was too much trouble. We were made to feel so welcome and "at home"
Our only complaint - we couldn't stay longer!!

My husband and I have taken far too long to write this review and I can only apolgise to the lovely Dave and Sarah! We spent a few nights here back in July when Dave and Sarah first took over the place and we have to say it was the highlight of our trip. The lodge is just beautiful - the views, the rooms, the welcolming/homely atmosphere was just everything we could have wished for. If you are a foodie then this is the place for you. Absolutely devine. Cannot recommend this place highly enough. We were staying here as a treat as part of our honeymoon and we loved every single second of it!

Best of luck Dave & Sarah - you absolutely deserve it. Can't wait to come back!
