“Old Dairy”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 December 2010

We stayed in the Old Dairy for 2 nights - this is their cheapest unit $110, and when we booked the only one available. It was gorgeous. Located right beside the main house - as it was the former kitchen for the property - it was perfect for us. Yes it is small, but the views out to the garden, comfy bed and fresh farm goodies were excellent. We tried out the complimentary bicycles - which were all good quality, but it was a windy day and many of the vineyards in this area are closer to Renwick. The advantage of the Dairy was that you had wi-fi in the room, where due to the distance of the main house many of the others had to come to the vacinity of the house. We loved our 2 days at the Old Dairy and would certainly stay again next time with go to the Marlborough area. Also had a great meal at the resturant Rapua (or something similar) and beautiful wine at the boutique winery at Bladen, plus tried our the MOA brewrey beside Cloudy Bay Winery.

Stayed in the converted WoolShed..quite an experience! Southerlies blew in during our stay but that did not stop me enjoying a dip (a very quick dip) in the outdoor bath (which luckily had hot running water).

This is not a place to stay if you expect luxurious 5* treatment. (I had to clear the outdoor bath of bird droppings - haha!) But the buildings are afterall coverted farm sheds etc. But you will get a home away from home (clean crisp linen, laundry facilities with clothesline and pegs, eggs & milk in the fridge, and a resident rabbit!), with hosts who treat you with kindness and warmth (fresh strawberries in the morning!).

St Leonards Cottages were a perfect choice for our visit to the Blenheim area. Close enough to town (10-min) but even better situated for our vineyard tours. Daphne and Paul were warm and inviting. Stayed in the Shearer's Quarters. Perfect for 2-3 people. Grounds were lovely. Front door opened to neighboring vineyard. Good recommendations and quick access to both well-known and boutique wineries.

We stayed in the stables for 2
nights and loved every minute of our stay, from the new lamb prancing around the paddock in front of the cottage, to the welcome Paul and Daphne gave us; the homely and comforting feel inside the cottage and the perfect location for touring the local wineries, as well as being our gateway to the Marlborough Sounds. Best if you are renting a car to be able to access the best of the nearby facilities when staying here.
We loved it so much here: the morning views of the mountains with vines all around the bases, the resident deer, sheep and chickens, and mainly the fact that it felt so private- our idyllic piece of Marlborough.

I loved this place!! We stayed in the Shearer's Quarters. The cottage faces a vineyard and the property gardens. The cottage had everything we needed and I especially loved the roomy and well appointed bathroom. The shower was excellent!!

The property itself is beautiful. You feel like you are a million miles away from the hustle and bustle of every day life.

The hosts were very kind and gracious. I sprained my leg during my stay in Blenheim and they checked up on me a few times and offered their assistance in any way.

We stayed in the Shearer's Quarters on our honeymoon while touring the South Island. The accommodation is in a quiet and romantic setting amongst the vineyards. The cottage is of a high standard with everything you need for a self catering stay. In addition the owners were extremely friendly and made you feel very welcome, even giving us fresh eggs for breakfast!

We stayed in the Stables at St Leonards Cottages. It was a lovely place in a really beautiful and idyllic area. Our view included a flock of sheep, which seemed to like eating the lemons that fell from the lemon trees, some young deer and chickens. As one might expect, the animals were loud at times but not during our two nights there. Though keep an ear out for the cockerel!

Upon our arrival we were told that in our fridge contained free range eggs right from the hens on the property. It was also stocked with milk, orange juice and butter. We also had small boxes of cereals. The kitchen was basic but perfectly adequate. Everything one would need from cutlery, plates and glasses to a toaster and pots and pans.

The Stables could not have been nicer. Although not particularly large, it was a long building and provided everything that we needed. The queen size bed was comfortable and came with heated blankets. As we stayed during late winter/early spring we made use of them. There was also a pot belly stove but it was unlit. The main source of heat was a portable heater set on a timer, which kept us warm during the evening and morning hours.

The grounds were well kept and all the cottages were spread out. The Stables are towards the back the property, so you will not be disturbed by anyone including cars going to their cottages.

Obviously what is nice about St Leonards Cottages is the location. If you are looking for something central in Blenheim this is not the place for you. It is about a 10-15 minute drive to the CBD. However, if you want that feel for the country with wildlife and trees whilst being close to town, then this is the place for you.

A really good place to eat nearby but also outside of town is Gibbs. Our hosts recommended it and even booked our taxi. Divine!
