“A perfect Lunch”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 March 2011

We stopped here for lunch, during our Wine Tours by Bike (see separate review), after it was recommended by our hosts at the B&B and Nigel (who runs Wine Tours by Bike). The weather was perfect, as was the Chardonnay we had with our meal. Service was discreet and attentive, an the food done to perfection. The views across the vineyards from the terrace are superb, and this only adds to the atmosphere. We tasted first so we could decide which wine to have with our meal. we found it very difficult to get back on the bikes and finish the rest of the tour. Even if you are not on a wine tour, Highfield is worth seeking out.

“Superb setting for lunch in wine country”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 14 August 2010

We stopped off here whilst touring the vineyards on bike in October 2009. Although the area around is mostly flat, the climb uphill to Highfield Estate to their car park is the (short) exception. Still, when you arrive, there are places to park the bikes and there is a very nice restaurant and another welcome taste of wine!

We were lucky that the sun was out and it was ideal for sitting on the expansive terrace, with a straw hat (thoughtfully provided to give some shade), looking over the countryside from the raised vantage point. This is wine tasting at it's best. The food was very nice too - you can keep it fairly simple or splurge out, although do bear in mind those miles to cycle after! The building is very grand and I'm sure you can tour around and enjoy a view from the tower - we didn't. We relaxed a little too much and on departing took the wrong turn giving ourselves a few extra miles to wear off the excesses.

Incidently Highfield Estate wine is available in the UK as they provide Tesco's Finest Sauv Blanc - sad to say Tesco don't provide the setting (it's just a memory now). Recommended.
