Hunters is not up to the standard of other winery restaurants around Blenheim. It is not their wines that is the problem, they were excellent. And the location is terrific. But the food was just plain bad.
It was Mothers Day and we sat in the garden and the sun was out and it was very nice. The menu didn't have many choices. From memory 3 fish choices, pork belly and steak sandwich.
My daughter and I had pork belly with mashed potato. I was very hungry but still didn't eat it much of it. It was just uninspiring, I could do better at home. My wife had the salmon. It was grossly over cooked and came with a coleslaw like salad. Both were not eaten. And this from a women who always cleans her plate and is nothing short of a little piggy.
Prices for mains were mid $20. For the price you expect much better. Service was amateurish. I had to go off and get the specials board and my wife hunted down the menus. Maybe because it was Mothers Day.
Go there for a drink in the garden or to sample the great wines at the cellar door. But give the food a miss.
