“Better options in Blenheim”
Reviewed 20 May 2014

Hunters is not up to the standard of other winery restaurants around Blenheim. It is not their wines that is the problem, they were excellent. And the location is terrific. But the food was just plain bad.

It was Mothers Day and we sat in the garden and the sun was out and it was very nice. The menu didn't have many choices. From memory 3 fish choices, pork belly and steak sandwich.
My daughter and I had pork belly with mashed potato. I was very hungry but still didn't eat it much of it. It was just uninspiring, I could do better at home. My wife had the salmon. It was grossly over cooked and came with a coleslaw like salad. Both were not eaten. And this from a women who always cleans her plate and is nothing short of a little piggy.

Prices for mains were mid $20. For the price you expect much better. Service was amateurish. I had to go off and get the specials board and my wife hunted down the menus. Maybe because it was Mothers Day.

Go there for a drink in the garden or to sample the great wines at the cellar door. But give the food a miss.

We are really sorry that you had a disappointing meal at our restaurant and especially disappointed that you found the Asian Salmon and crispy noodle salad not to your liking, it is one of the favourites on the menu. It was an extremely busy day.
We are proud of our extensive native garden and surrounds and appreciate your positive comments about these and our award winning wines.

“Very good”
Reviewed 28 April 2014

We had visits from four groups of overseas relations this year, as you do, if you live in Marlborough, you take your relations on wine tasting and purchasing tours... This included lunch three times over the summer at Hunters Restaurant. The food and service on all three visits was excellent. The wine always superb, the staff friendly and informative regarding menu choices. Our overseas relations very complimentary. You also get a bonus by working up an appetite if you have a walk around the wonderful native gardens that have been developed and planted over the past ten? years or so. All the plants and trees labelled and interesting garden art secreted around the grounds. Also recommend visiting the on site art gallery.

“A Bit Greasy”
Reviewed 10 March 2014 via mobile

Not a restaurant that I can recommend. We were told it had garden seating and there was none of note. Menu choices were slim. My steak was overcooked and swimming in extra grease. My salad was over loaded with dressing and I couldn't leave fast enough. The wine was fine, the art studio was interesting and the wild garden walk nice....but eat elsewhere!
