This place was one of our favourites but in the last year or so has really gone downhill. The food is bland, the portion sizes got smaller and the price went up. There are definitely better places in Blenheim

We were a party of 12 so expected a wait, however that night there was only one chef on so it was a bit of a wait but well worth it in the end. Well presented and tasty. Good value. Local beers on tap.

One has to remember that this is bar restaurant for families, and not a place you may go for that romantic or special occasion. So, if you just wish to mix it with the locals and not expect someone like Gordon Ramsay to suddenly pop out, then this is a great place.
There was a very extensive menu to choose from, which is somewhat unusual for such restaurants. Not gourmet, but very tasty all the same, well priced (for the budget conscious) and of a reasonable quantity.
On the other side of the bar was the drinking lounge, where on the night we were there, a karaoke was in full swing, providing some local entertainment along with some local hospitality.

Well, if we hadn't been absolutely starving, this probably wouldn't have been okay! We arrived in Blenheim late on a Sunday night. We didn't want to go too far and our Motel owner recommended the Tavern for dinner. The lamb cutlets were overcooked, the gravy tasted like it came from a packet and I suspect the mash potatoe also came from a packet. I also think the veges were frozen (or had been cooked some hours earlier). My neice had the burger and that looked slightly better.

Overall, they were not busy at all - how hard would it have been to cook a reasonable lamb cutlet? We weren't expecting fine dining, but had hoped for good basic home style cooking.
