“Comfortable”
Reviewed 12 January 2014 via mobile

Our two night stay was comfortable. The room was clean, modern, had great facilities, and the hotel was quiet. It is close to the town, and has lovely views of the park. The staff were minimal, as we stayed over the Christmas holiday, but the lovely girl who checked us in was helpful, as was the manager

Clean and spacious rooms. Free WiFi, lots of Sky Channels, Very friendly and helpful staff. Handy to Riccarton Road restaurants and right opposite Hagley Park. The rooms facing onto Deans Ave and Riccarton Road are lighter with bigger windows but can be noisy with morning rush hour traffic as the hotel is right on a busy round about. Recommend.

Room Tip: Rooms facing Riccarton Road are lighter with much bigger windows.

We stayed here by chance having spotted it whilst on the lookout for somewhere suitable to stay in Christchurch. We only planned to stay one night but found our room comfortable, spacious and well located so we used it as a base for three nights. Plenty of good restaurants close by, and close enough to the CBD for those who enjoy a pleasant walk through the park. Only negative is that it is located on a busy road but once the windows were closed the noise of the traffic was barely audible. Would have liked a park view and probably could have asked for one. It did seem odd that our room had a well equipped kitchen, except for a stove top/oven - just a microwave for cooking. Not an issue for us as I had no intention of cooking. Would definitely stay there again.

I have been a repeat visitor over the last few months and the staff have become more friendly. I have two issues though. There is no cable TV, Foxtel. The free to air TV s poor and at the room rates there is no excuse. Secondly lighting is poor and it's difficult to read at night. Why?

Recently stayed at Parkview on Hagley for business, room was huge, great bathroom and shower, bed really comfortable and overall a good stay. The only criticism would be the food facilities, as a lone femal traveller I was uncomfortable going to the pub that is attached to the hotel, you have to leave the hotel and go around the side street to another location. I ended up getting room service bed paying the charge as the pub was busy with lots of people. Check in was good as was check out, quiet rooms and good location. Would def go back.

Parkview on Hagley sits opposite a well utilized park in somewhat suburban central Christchurch. The rooms are spacious and clean. The executive rooms come with a kitchenette area minus a cook-top. But an electric kettle, microwave and toaster are provided. There is an ample assortment of coffees and teas for the times when you wake at God knows what hour, because you're dealing with a 17-hour time difference; you were in yesterday but now it's tomorrow. Anyway, the coffee and tea choices are a welcome amenity. People don't get any nicer than Kiwis, and that's true of the hotel staff.

I had a corner room overlooking the park. I could see the runners, rugby players, and the young lady with her saxaphone strapped over her shoulder. She looked ready to play but was intently engaged with a text, chat, or something else on her mobile. 20 minutes later when were leaving the car park, I saw her again having moved maybe 20 feet from her original spot, but still locked onto her iPhone, all while the mouthpiece of her woodwind instrument grew colder, wondering if it would play any notes that day.

The hotel offers no restaurant, but one sits right around the corner with good beer selections and plenty of New Zealand lamb. Yum! The area is very pedestrian, so nearby shops, stores, and restaurants can be found within walking distance.

From the cheeriness and hospitality of Christchurch's Kiwis, you never would believe that within the last few years they suffered an earthquake with a magnitude that nearly leveled their city center, to include the city's namesake cathedral. But they are rebuilding their city and their lives. And still, visitors experience a genuine hospitality. During my brief time in NZ, I felt comfortable and welcome at Parkview on Hagley, indeed.

I stayed in Parkview on Hagley last week for 2 nights with my adult daughter while she was partcipating in a medical research study at Christchurch hospital. We had initially been offered accommodation in the YMCA but decided that we would like to stay somewhere a bit nicer and Parkview on Hagley proved to be excellent and such so much better than anticipated. The room we had overlooked the trees and park, was light and bright and tastefully decorated. It was one of the biggest hotel rooms I have stayed in, really spacious as was the lovely tiled bathroom. It was great having the kitchenette which was well equipped and everything in the room was spotlessly clean. The aircon was really efficient and the place was warm,(it was snowing while we were in Chrstchurch). We didnt need the aircon over night the room stayed nice and warm. The double glazing meant that the room was really quiet despite there being a busy road and roundabout below. Everything worked well, the lighting was great and I especially noted that the key card entry worked first time, every time which I have never found before even in some quite expensive hotels around the world. The reception area is very small but perfectly adequate and there was always a pleasant and helpful person in attendance. We were given a lovely welcome and our room was ready for us with aircon on and curtains drawn, we arrived after dark on a cold miserable night. The room had been made up as 2 single beds for us and the beds were very comfortable with lovely linen and perfect weighted duvets. We both slept really well in such a quiet and comfortable place. I ended up spending quite a bit of time in the room over the 2 days whilst my daughter was at the hospital and found the room really pleasant to be in with such a nice outlook, even though it was grey and rainy weather. The only small negative I can say is that the hotel policy is to charge for a late check out which I felt was a bit steep as the hotel is not cheap to stay in.

Room Tip: Our first floor room overlooking the park had a very nice aspect.
