We stayed at Tower Junction three times during our 2 week trip to the South Island - at the beginning, middle and end of our trip. It became our home away from home and we looked forward to going back each time.

The staff are so helpful and friendly! They remembered us each time we returned and went out of their way to help, especially with restaurant recommendations (even going so far as to text a knowledgeable friend for recs for certain cuisines we were craving). Rooms are very clean and beds comfortable. It is definitely worth shelling out a bit more for the slightly larger studio - better value. Still, we were very happy with the smallest studio for the first two of our stays and thought this was the best deal over the course of our trip.

The pro's about this motel are its location and lovely husband-wife manager team, Darren and his wife. They could not do enough to make our stay comfortable. I chose this motel because it offered a free shuttle to the train station, which worked out perfectly for the following morning when we caught the KiwiTrail Tranzalpine to Greymouth. Shuttle computers were down and Darren diligently worked on reserving us seats, spending a long time on the phone to work out all details. So for its location, if you are planning on taking the train, Tower Junction Motor is a great choice. The motel room itself left much to be desired. It was really 3-star and no more. Carpets were faded. Bed not the best. It was clean though and the kitchenette came in handy for coffee in the morning.

Room Tip: We had a room near the back, away from the main road. Try for this.

My room had been upgraded at time of check-in even without requesting.. The rooms are quite spacious, clean and they provide a complete kitchen.. The hosts are also quite helpful and will guide you for the city activities, mall, etc.. Its just little far from the airport but properly located in the city..

Very good motel, very clean close to railway station for Trans Alpine train trip.
We arrived late and no milk in unit, when we went to ask for some we were told that as it was boxing day they had not put any in unit as they were short after much discussion the owner reluctantly came and filled a cup up from a 2 litre bottle he had. We stayed 3 days and received 1 small soap and 1 shampoo for 2 people for 3 days needless to say we had to go and purchase large bottles which we were trying to avoid.
Having said all this the motel was very clean and had good kitchen type facilities and overall was very good.
We would stay again.

Room Tip: As far away from road as possible as if windows open very very noisey

We booked this motel for an overnight stay as it was very close to the station that we needed to be at early in the morning. We were very pleasantly surprised at the quality! Great clean and modern rooms. Very satisfied with the kitchen and bathroom and general state of cleanliness. This was easily the best motel we stayed in during our visit to NZ, and even put some much more expensive hotels to shame. I was slightly apprehensive having only seen a small photo online but turns out I had nothing to worry about as it was excellent.

We didn't notice any noise from the road, and the walk to the station was about 10 minutes tops even with luggage. Its only a short walk away from the Westfield shopping centre which may be useful for some.

Would 100% recommend this to anyone looking for somewhere handy to stay for the railway station.

I stayed at this lodge for one night with my family as we were supposed to board the Tranzalpine express next day morning. The reception staff were extremely warm in their welcome, helpful and accommodating. The room was cozy, comfortable and clean. The kitchenette was very helpful to cook up meals for our 3 year old daughter. The best part is all amenities are within walking distance and they provide free shuttle drop off at the station early in morning.
Overall a very good experience and I would highly recommend staying at this lodge for a short stay.

Room Tip: If travelling with young ones, choose the room with kitchenette.
