This motel with the hispanic name is owned and operated by a person named Ping Liu. Just a funny little tidbit there. Very nice people! Check in was so easy! I was just asked if I wanted skim or regular milk for my coffee, and the lady took the milk out, walked us to our room, and actually said, "You asked for a quiet room, and this is a good one". I have honestly never had anyone mention my request before. All of the hotel websites ask if there are any requests, but then they just ignore them.
There was a private little courtyard in back with a sliding door and trees. The bathroom was large, but the shower only had a curtain around it. No barrier between it and the rest of the bathroom floor, which was a little odd. However, it had great water pressure and a hand held shower head, which I love. There is also a heater in the ceiling - COMFY!
The room has a large selection of coffee, tea and sweeteners, and even a cookie. There's a microwave, fridge, small cooktop, dishes (including wine glasses)...just everything you need for a very comfortable home away from home. I would not stay anywhere else in Christchurch! This was the best place we stayed throughout our 2 weeks in NZ, and it was only for 1 night :(
Oh - forgot to add - There is a fitness center across the street you can use for free (Ibis charged $15.00), and they have relationships with the surrounding restaurants to be able to charge to your room.

Room Tip: Apparently, just ask for what you want, and they'll get it for you. I asked for a quiet room, and I got it.

Lorenzo Motor Lodge was the best of about 8 different hotels we stayed at on a recent bike tour through the South Island, ending in Christchurch. And, it had very reasonable rates of $144US per night. Recently upgraded, nice bath rooms, with double jacuzzi tub, clean, helpful and friendly staff, plenty of towels, a rarity for NZ. Owner operated shows in customer service and hard work. We liked this place so much, it is the only place we will stay at in Christchurch, should we go again. Keep the bathroom door closed when showering, or it will set off smoke alarm. Very small inconvenience for such a nice place.

Room Tip: Our room was away from road so it was quiet, but they all may be.

This was our last stop before out flight the next morning back to the North Island. The motel was along a strip of others, so you have to really look out for them as a lot of them look similar! The owners were very friendly and we found them really helpful, they came to our room to tell us when they are there and when they are out etc, where there is locally to eat and generally introduce themselves which was lovely!

We found it was a very comfortable place to rest for our flight the next morning, and we ate at Nando's accross the road!

Definately a recommended stay!
I don't think there is alot to do in Christchurch, i'm not sure if this is because of the earthquakes they had, but it's not somewhere known for its breathtaking views. But definately provides a good first and last night nearer the airport, rather than driving for miles on the same day.

We stayed here on our first and last nights in New Zealand. The location was convenient, with many eating places along the street, and a pleasant walk to the town centre through Hagley Park. The rooms were spacious and comfortable and the staff were friendly and helpful. If we return to Christchurch we will certainly stay there again.

We had a week long stay because my husband was having surgery at the nearby hospital. The room was extremely clean, and quite comfortable. The location was close to enough cafes and restaurants that it wasn't necessary to drive for a meal. An efficient kitchenette in the room made it easy to do a little light cooking, or bring in a takeaway meal. Even though it is on a busy road, there was no traffic noise at night, and the bed was very comfortable, ensuring a good night's sleep.
When my husband left the hospital for a few days recovery in the motel, there was a welcoming bouquet of flowers from Ping, the owner.
We would not hesitate to recommend this establishment to anyone wishing to stay in Christchurch
