This is an older motel, yes the carpets are not new but the place was clean, the owners friendly, and the beds were comfortable. If you are looking for a fancy new motel with lots of extras, go elsewhere, if you are looking for a good 3 star place, this is a good pick. Added bonus was that the airport was just 10 min away.

Good location, great internet (wired) and great staff. Large room, lots of decent furniture and good TV. I would stay again.

I stayed for one night at the Earnslaw Motel at the end of a five week campervan holiday in South Island NZ prior to flying on to Singapore. It's conveniently located on the Blenheim Road -reasonably close to shopping facilities (if you need them) - don't know about restaurants - used the kitchen and the last of my 'supplies'. The place is clean, comfortable and well equipped - its more of an apartment than a room. There's a good sized kitchen - full cooker, fridge freezer, microwave and the usual toaster, electric kettle etc. In the main room there's a double bed, table and chairs, a couple of easy chairs and a TV. The bathroom is also a decent size. The shower is excellent (the cubicle's big enough to actually turn around without banging your elbows).

Accommodation is generally pretty expensive in Christchurch but the Earnslaw is very reasonably priced for what's on offer. I made the booking through Agoda - no problems - and the owner was helpful with sorting out a taxi transfer ($NZ20 - fixed rate) to the airport. I would certainly use it again.

I stayed two nights at the Earnslaw after a flight from the USA. The owner is very friendly and drove me to the train station where she helped me get tickets (and a good discount) for the Tranzalpine train ride to Greymouth. The Earnslaw is somewhat isolated if you don't have a car but there are good bus connections nearby to the City Center and the same bus goes all the way to the beach at New Brighton. The Earnslaw is clean, comfortable, friendly and a good place to stay in Christchurch.

We found this motel to be clean and with great facilities. Our room included a double bed, TV, table and chairs, 2 single lounge chairs and a separate (almost) full size kitchen and separate bathroom. Everything was well maintained and clean (it was serviced everyday) and we found the room to be exactly what we needed for our stay in ChCh. It cost about $120 a night which I thought maybe a little overpriced for the side of town it is in. Having said that, we did walk to Riccarton Mall in 20 minutes and coming from a much bigger city ourselves it seemed to be so easy and quick to drive around ChCh anyway! P.S we felt earth tremors while we were there but the motel is only one level and very solidly built and is not particularly close to where the worst of the earthquake hit, we felt quite safe there.

This motel is family-run and very well-kept. The motel signage does not look like much from the main street but the internal grounds and rooms are very well-maintained. We stayed here on our return to Christchurch after several days of camping throughout the South Island and we found this motel extremely comfortable. Its situated close to the airport (about 10 mins drive) and close to a the Riccarton mall (a few mins drive). It may have been from all the camping but the bed was extremely comfortable and I think I had the best nights sleep in New Zealand in this motel. The kitchen is very clean and well-equipped with pots and pans. All round, very good value for money.

Friendly staff, spacious room with equiped kitchen. Clean, comfortable.
Only negative point no soap or shampoo given after the first day so you have to buy your own.
(you can get free DVDs to watch at the reception)
As with all motels in the area you need a car to move around. Distances are huge in NZ, (nothing to do with the motel, but you need to know it when going to NZ)
Remember it's a Motel (not a hotel)
