Dropped off our camper and stayed here for three nights! Got a free upgrade to a private room which was nice of the staff! Infact the staff were very nice throughout!

The communal area was decent with they've having tons of channels and the kitchen area was well stocked and kept clean! The shower areas were also clean!

No Internet but that's the norm over there and it's not so far from the library where you can use it for free anyway!

Our room was cool enough and it wasn't overly pricey!

Oh it has a washer and dryer $2 each so you can do your own laundry!

Would recommend!

My friends and I stayed here for one night before flying out of Christchurch. We stayed in what used to be a hotel room which had 2 bedrooms, a bathroom, a living room and kitchen. The lounge and kitchen were a good size and milk was supplied for free which was nice. The bedroom that had 2 beds was comfortable but the one with 4 beds was pretty cramped. It was a good location too.

The staff are super friendly and very helpful, but the facilities aren't in great shape. The buildings have obviously been modified into a hostel and the finishings aren't high end. The locks on the doors made me nervous given that it was a city and I didnt feel comfortable leaving my belongings in my private room when I went out. They do have a large lounge area for TV. A daily internet pass will cost you $20, which, is about twice what I had to pay elsewhere.

Now named 'at the right place' this certainly surprised our expectations. Hotel rooms were cheap, clean and super modern. Excellent service, location too. Just a 2 minute walk to restaurants and shops.

This place is under new management at the moment and the name of it has changed to "At the Right Place". For less than a hundred a night, you will get good value for money. Kiwi Basecamp (which was old and smelly) was full on the day I needed accommodation so I was recommended to stay at this place down the street. The only con is the location, which is a 20 minute walk from the city centre. The people that work there are very friendly, and the new refurbished room will surprise you. I was definitely at the right place.

We stayed here for one night while waiting to, hopefully, get our flight after beeing stranded in NZ for a week. We'd driven down from Nelson, about 6 hours driving. We'd booked at a big YHA but if you're even vaguely claustrophobic, this is not where to be. So we got a refund. Nearby we found the Celtic Backpackers in Dublin St, but they had no family rooms. They were really friendly and helpful and made some phone calls for us and found that the Akron in Bealey Ave, had a family room free. When we got there they were waiting for us with free cereals, milk, coffee and anything else we might need. At $75 for a huge family room, it doesn't get any better. That's half the price of the one we'd been booked in. Everything was clean and fresh. Masses of bathrooms with clean towels. Lovely kitchen, lounge etc. And the huge room we had opened onto where our car was parked. So the car boot to the door was three feet away. If you're repacking and getting ready for 36 hours of flight and travel, this is amazing. We left our bags of food and goodies we'd accumulated outside the office in the early hours of the morning, so hope they got it before a stray possum or dog did. Thank you and see you again next year.
