“Not the best in New Zealand”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 30 November 2011

This was our first impression of New Zealand when we arrived in Christchurch. We were very cold having come from Brisbane and the room, which was a fair size, was inadequately heated by one very small electric panel heater. The temperature in Christchurch was eight degrees so I think they need to "up" their heating capacity. The room was clean but the furniture was not in the first flush of youth and the kitchen was very basic. The bedroom also was clean but very small although it had the absolute joy of an electric blanket. We have since stayed in quite a few motels in New Zealand and this one was o.k. but I would not say it deserved it's high rating.

I booked in for 2 nights - "over the counter".The manager / owner was extremely friendly and helpful. I found the studio adequate with sofa and table and chairs - which helped with my business meetings. Studio, bathroom and kitchenette all very clean and tidy. I was without a car and would have to say that I had to take a bit of a walk to find a bus stop. For those with a car, the location is very good and off street parking is provided. Bed was comfortable and nights quiet.

Stayed twice on our recent leisure visit, the hotel is absolutely good for family and couples, conveniently located and owner Tina goes that extra mile to make you feel at home.
Would love to stay again.

Tina was really friendly and helpful when we checked in, pointing out what we could do and see locally and where it was safe to go (since the earthquake). We were really happy with our room, the bed was very comfortable and we slept very well. It's a quiet, residential area and the motel has a lovely small garden with mature trees around the car park. It's a short walk from the city centre red zone. The motel was very clean and the kitchenette was well set out. We had groceries with us and Tina gave us a hob to cook on. On our last night we borrowed a dvd player and some dvds from reception as we had an early start. Overall, we really enjoyed our stay here and will be back when we return to Christchurch in the future. Thanks Tina for such a comfortable stay. Sarah and Andrew

Room Tip: We didn't specify our room on booking but were very pleased with our allocation. We had a large...

Traveling family of 3. 2 adults and teenage son.
Our room was clean, comfortable, warm and well priced.
Christchurch was our first stop on a 25 day trip, taking in both Islands of NZ.
Tina's warm welcome and constant help with directions was great, as a large portion of Christchurch is still declared a Red Zone. She made our booking for the Trans Alpine Railway and was very accommodating with our breakfast requirements.
The lovely greeting we received at The City Centre Motel really set the tone for the rest of our trip.

Only stayed for one night but were made very welcome. As soon as we arrived, the ladies were super helpful. The normal things were off the table because of the earthquake but they helped us find alternatives.

Will go back for sure.

Tina was warm and very helpful. Knowing our interest in the arts scene in Nelson, where we were heading next, she printed an extensive list of all the art galleries in that area for us.
