This is an excellent quiet spot very close to the main shopping venue - Riccarton Mall. There is a lovely short bush walk and nice surrounds. On Saturday morning there is an excellent food market

Riccarton house is a old homestead set in lovely bush area. A visit on a Saturday morning is particularly enjoyable as there is the local Farmers Market. A lively interesting collection of stall holders and always well patronized by the locals. It is set beside the Avon River.

Saturday food market was good fun with lots of really fresh and well produced artisan and organic foods. Posh porridge and good coffee for breakfast

The house in undergoing earthquake repairs but you can still enjoy the enclosed walking track. Full of native birds and to get a feel of how canterbury looked like when origiinal settlers first arrived. My favorite is Saturday morning fair my wife enjoys the shopping from fresh vegetables to fresh baking my favorite is the sunshine band which regularly plays there with nice coffee and food worth a visit

The Saturday markets are quite busy don't know about the Sunday one. Try the local produce, buy some handcrafted goodies or take a stroll through the forest reserve.
