“Clean and comfortable, but no free wifi”
Reviewed 23 May 2014

We had a studio room, which was small, but clean enough and in our price range. We wanted to do some laundry and the owner wasn't that helpful. She ended up doing it for us, and charged us $8. Also there is NO free wifi, not even 100MB - it's all through Zenbu - which I find a bit tight in this day and age. We decided to stay elsewhere on our next visit stop in Christchurch.

Stayed here one night. Staff were very friendly and helpful, offering advice on local food, and helping to plan the best route to our destination the next day. Room was clean and comfortable, with table, chairs, plates and cutlery provided. Good value, would recommend.

We stayed at the Merivale Court late in Jan, and love the room. We were in a family suite and it was perfect for my family of four. The rooms are very clean and have newer flooring and really comfortable beds, and is in a great location close to the city centre.

As I was looking for accommodation close to the hospital, this motel was perfect location for us. The studio room we got was tidy and good value for the price we paid. We had a lot of space for two of us and was very clean. The owner was super friendly and any problems/queries we had she sorted out quickly and with a smile on her face. It is an older property and could maybe do with a few touch ups, however, this would probably lift up the price and then I would not of been able to afford it.

Kitchen could of done with a hob for cooking and also be aware wifi is not free. On the whole, really pleased with our stay.

Firstly, people please be honest with your reviews, we Trippies rely on them. Stick together.

Where do I start. This place is VERY old. As always be very careful when you are looking at photos on the net. Look very very closely. At first glance this place looks OK. I must say, it is very neat and tidy which is obviously a big consideration. That's where it ends. It has a cubby house feel about the the place with its attic style ceiling. We were located upstairs on "timber floors". Sorry to the people below because the place creeks and groans and you can hear people walking around. The kitchen is very old and very basic. The shower base is stainless steel!!!!! Can you believe it? Obviously easier for them to maintain but bloody cold on your feet. Mixer taps!!!! Please!!! It makes it easier for me to brush my teeth. Power points please!!!! We have cameras, iPads, phones etc......they all need charging, you will struggle to find anywhere to plug your devices into. I found a power point, oh its got an extension cord along the floor for the TV!!!! Ahhhh...I found 1 single power point in the kitchen. I'll unplug the microwave, but I can't use the toaster and the kettle at the same time. Wait.....I wanted to cook some porridge in the microwave too....Doh!!!! Also, no bedside cabinets, no clock radio. But wait there's more....you are not going to believe this one......there is a hair dryer in the bathroom (vinyl flooring) but....wait for it.....no power point. Go and figure that out.

At the end of the day if you want something neat clean and are looking for somewhere for your mother-in-law to stay you've found it. This is it!!!

If you liked my honest review please give me thumbs up.

Room Tip: No room tip on selection. They all look the same.

The owner were very new to the motel and very willing to please. They had advertised Wi-Fi availability bit when I went to log on which required a credit card to pay for access. Not happy to use a credit card for small purchases upon making this known to the staff the endeavoured to follow up (and did) on pre purchase vouchers for the internet - very helpful. The motel is older but very clean and tidy and reasonable priced. We had a two bedroom unit which was spacious with all the we needed for our two day stay. It is located on a main road, but not noisy, close to buses, Merivale Mall, plenty of restaurants, even the Casino. Easy to find, parking was available next to our room.
