“Very modern motel”
Reviewed 28 March 2012

We stayed at the 298 Westside Motor Lodge for three nights. The rooms were very modern and spotless with beautiful grounds. The hotel was in close proximity to the city bus lines. Several of the booking sites (not this hotels) state that there is free airport transfer which is not the case. The hotel offers 200MB of Wi-Fi which did not last very long. We had the spa room which cost a few dollars per night more, but extra cost was worth it. The owners were friendly, but not as friendly as the owners of other motels we stayed at.

Room Tip: Take the spa room for a couple of dollars more

We stayed at this place our last night in New Zealand. We were just looking for a reasonable place to crash. The hotel staff was very friendly and helpful, walking us to our room and showing us how to use the amenities. They even gave us milk for our coffee. Our room was a studio suite, with a small kitchen. The place was very clean, the bed was comfortable. The only negative was that the AC unit operates on a 2-hr timer, so if you want to run it all night, you'd have to get up every 2 hours to push the button. We didn't need AC, and the windows open, but the room was at ground level in an urban environment, so it might pose a security concern. Would stay here again.

Stayed here during my first visit in New Zealand. Arrived at midnight, Kim (the owner) personally came and fetch us. She also helped us carry our luggages up the stairs. Very nice, clean place with just walking distance to the malls and convenient shops. Kim even makes good suggestion regarding tours and drove us to the Riccarton Sunday Market. The rooms, bathroom and kitchen are spotlessly clean :-) There's a bus stop is just right in front of the lodge.

Christchurch was our final destination in NZ after having driven 4,500km all over the North and South Islands for 3 weeks. This place was clean, spacious and had 2 bedrooms which were really good for catching up on lost sleep. This was what we needed to recover before going on our 20 hour flight back. We booked for 3 nights and were able to drive around Christchurch easily. The location is ideal for shopping with the shops a short distance from it. There is a common patio with a gas barbecue and a garden set available to guests. The kitchen is well equipped with everything you need for cooking and serving. We specially loved the AC/Heater which was a welcome bonus, since it was quite difficult to find any in most accommodation in NZ. It is also close to the airport with the taxi only costing $35.00 at 3am. There is also a launderette where you can wash and dry your clothes.Overall, we had a wonderful and comfortable stay. We would recommend this place to friends and to people who like a bit more space than just a hotel room.

We were in Christchurch for a stopover and had to leave early the next morning. Everything about this hotel was awesome except for one incident which I'll share last. But from the moment we entered the lobby, we were attended to with courtesy and care. Our 2-bedroom accommodation was very clean and nice. Loved the a/c and heating. There was also grocery shopping at a short distance and a few shops and cafes. If we needed anything, they were more than willing to try and cater to our needs. Loved our stay. Would definitely go back and stay here in Christchurch, especially for the price! Awesome!

The only bad thing was that the shuttle to pick us up from airport wasn't coming for 1.5 hours after we arrived. Even though I had told them we would arrive at 4pm, for some reason they booked it for 5.30. Regardless, they were nice enough to transport us back to the airport very early the next morning before service hours. I would not let this incident detract me from staying here. Nor should you.

We stayed one night before a flight. The location was excellent, close to the airport, and on a main room so easy to get to. The room was spacious, quiet and had a small kitchen area like most NZ motels. The spa bath was huge and relaxing. We walked about 20-30min to westfield shopping mall and had a good cheap meal at an pasta pizza resturant. Check in was easy and the service was good.

Room Tip: The studio with spa bath was big and very quiet

Found this motel as one arguably closest to the airport and hence recommended for families/friends who'd want to fly-in/fly-out of Christchurch without the worries of airport transfers. The hotel is on riccarton road and a short distance away from malls and restaurants in the region.
The motel is (of course) family run and well maintained though the outdoors are a bit of crammed in terms of parking space for patrons. The rooms are all well done with all kind of amenities you could think of.
Recommended..

For 150NZD/night, I found the motel fairly expensive though worth the stay.
