Miners Arms Farmstay Bed & Breakfast
Ranked #27 of 141 Christchurch B&B and Inns
Reviewed 23 February 2014

Wow! We can't say enough about our stay at the Miners Arms B&B!

First, you get a complete, spacious two-bedroom apartment with sitting room which is separate from the residence. The rooms are nicely appointed, comfortable and spotlessly clean. The location is very quiet.

Breakfast was ample and included fresh eggs from the farm.

Lorna and Steve are the perfect hosts and couldn't be more helpful in providing dining recommendations, activities and things to see in the area.

Lorna took us along on her morning walk through the forest behind the house. It was very nice and ended with a visit with their beautiful alpacas. We were allowed to feed the alpacas (they eat from your hand) and could "visit" with them at any time.

This is one of the best B&Bs we have ever stayed in and can't wait to return!

Thanks so much for your brilliant review! We enjoyed meeting and talking with you both. Your feed back on local eateries was very helpful and I will pass on your comments to future guests.

First time that we stayed on a farm and being able to amble around the grounds with Lorna who's such a warm and welcoming host really made the difference.

Hand feeding the Alpacas was a highlight. The sheepdogs are gorgeous - Alfred and Skye. Old George too. And despite their size, they seemed to really enjoy the attention rolling over for tummy rubs.

The room was cosy with the upper level almost a separate small 2 bed apartment by itself as Lorna doesn't let out both rooms at the same time so we had it all to ourselves. Would seem to be very suitable for families then who need space for 2-or-more. Breakfast was great, really enjoyed the variety of homemade preserves.

We so enjoyed our stay at Miners Arms Farm. The rooms (it is actually a 2 bed apartment) were clean, well equipped and homely. the verandah was a bonus especially for eating outside and enjoying the sunset. The breakfast was excellent, we especially enjoyed Lorna's home made jams and the meal set us up for the days drive to Lake Tekapo. We fed the alpacas before leaving...there's a new experience! Very friendly, helpful host. We didn't realise we were so close to Christchurch and so we made a detour to drive round the city which was heartbreaking. This B & B is highly recommended.

We had a pleasant stay at Miners Arms. Lorna was a great host and took the time to introduce us to her farm animals. We had a lot of fun feeding the alpacas, the chickens and the sheep. We also spent some time playing with George the Labrador mongrel and the sheepdogs Alfred and Sky. It was an interesting experience for us as we learned a lot about alpacas and sheep.

Room was cosy and lovely and we had the whole top floor to ourselves. Everything was very well kept and clean.

Breakfast was satisfying and we tried the home made jam spreads which Lorna had made. They were delicious.

I would recommend this place.

2A & 2C. Stayed here at the end of a tour around the South Island and wanted something a bit different with not too much of a trip to Christchurch for our flight out.

We enjoyed staying here. It was great being able to go around the farm and meet all of the animals. Lorna was happy to show us around and introduce us to the rest of the hosts; from the Alpacas through to the flock of sheep. We also saw the remnants of a storm which had occurred recently and had kept them busy with the clean-up.

We had the entire upper level of the house to ourselves which was nice and allowed us to spread out a bit. The rooms are warm and comfortable and we had a good night’s sleep. As you are a little out of Christchurch the noise was minimal.

Breakfast in the morning was very nice with all of our needs being covered (and I get the impression you would probably need to have a very special request for it not to be covered).

If we were travelling through Christchurch again then we would definitely consider staying here again.

Really appreciated Lorna's time & explanations about her small farm, the alpacas, the sheep, dogs and chicken.

She was very patient when our two sons enjoyed feeding all the animals, especially the alpacas.

All staying conditions were perfect.

The place is also very convenient due to its close proximity to Christchurch airport.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and the individual attention received. We traveled with 2 small children, and there was plenty of room inside and outside for them to play. We enjoyed visiting the animals and feeding them the first day, although it would have been nice to have some extra food available to feed the animals later on during our stay, as previous farmstays had given us a bag or container of food to feed animal at our leisure. Breakfast was made to order and plentiful. Prices were very good for the level of service received.
