The motel/park is okay to stay if you are arriving to Christchurch by airplane and come in late. If you have a tent, it will save you some money as opposed to staying at a hotel close to the airport. Although be ready to pay $30 for taxi from the airport. If you rent a car, better pay for a late pickup instead of a cab - will be easier the next day. We stayed in a cabin, which was okay. The beds are fine, the heater is nuclear - no problems in the winter.
