“nice friendly and very very clean house”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 February 2014

The first days in New Zealand I stayed in the Haka Lodge. It was very nice and clean in the lodge - not as massive as the big hostels. 3 nights to relax before the great New Zealandcruise began. Easy reachable by bus - nice to go from there to Brighton, Summern and Litteltown. Dorm in 3 rooms with 7 normal Beds - no climbing up. Fresh herbes from the garden made the cooking in the new kitchen nice. There were very nice private rooms as well. Cool massive table for eating and a big TV room.

The lodge is very easy to drive to from the airport, a blessing with a midnight flight. Ample parking in the street. We stayed in the two bedroom apartment. Make sure you confirm numbers before you arrive, we needed the sofa lounge and didn't have any linen for the first night. Clean, tidy, well equipped - it is a backpackers, so not luxurious. It is difficult to find something suitable with one adult travelling with three teenagers. It was suited our purposes well. Kids loved the big tv.

Everything about this cozy little place is perfect. Staff is awesome and the double rooms are just like a little bed and breakfast.

Price wise it's actually not that bad. Everything is worth while. Happy to recommend

Lovely place with a homely feel. The communal room is great with huge sofas to chill on. If you want time to yourself there are plenty of places dotted around the lodge to sit and read etc. The lodge is a bus ride from the town but the bus stop is right outside. There are some shops, bars within walking distance too. The staff are lovely and I would stay again.

The hostel feels very new and clean. It is about a 10 minute drive out of town. There is a New World supermarket down the road. It felt more like I was staying in a friends home than a hostel. I'm not a fan of hostels and dormitories, however the dorms here were all single beds spread across the top floor and sectioned off, so it feels pretty private. I wouldn't class it as a party place, which is exactly why I liked it. The two cats are also hilarious to watch when they're having a play. Thanks for a lovely stay.

Location is a bit far from town but if you have a car, there would not be a problem. There is a supermarket and some restaurant nearby the lodge. Kitchen is slightly a bit small but the lounge area is big and nice. Room and bathroom is clean but only got one disadvantages is that we need to go up narrow and small staircase to the room which is not very convenience for traveler with big luggage. Wifi is given free upon check in.

Room Tip: Dorm room is divided into 3 area with partition of 2-2-3. Choose beds far from dorm door have less d...

We just stayed one night and checked in late, there were no hassles with that! The staff were very friendly. The room was nice, had a nice bed and bedding which we really appreciated! Would definitely recommend and would gladly go back!
