We were flying into Christchurch to begin a trip around the South Island and then returning to this hotel before departure. We found the hotel so welcoming and the service levels so good that it really started and ended our trip perfectly. The collection and dropping off at the airport was very efficient and when we got to the hotel, we were very quickly shown to our room which was clean and comfortable. The food at breakfast was varied and service was excellent. The food in the bar and restaurant for dinner was also very good and well priced. I really enjoyed the outdoor seating area which had a gas fire for the chilly evenings. This was a great meeting place to chat to other guests. The damaged city was off limits to visitors, but we hope we can get back to visit the city when the rebuilding work is done. We will definitely stay at the Copthorne.

Room Tip: Some rooms are a bit away from reception.

On check-in, after midnight, we were not allocated the correct level rooms which was frustrating. Day 1 staff pulled the bed up but did absolutely no other room tidying or cleaning - dirty cups left, bath mat left on floor, towels left tossed on the bath.

Restaurant has very limited options if you are staying longer than one day..

Having said that, most staff were friendly and helpful, and hotel generally runs efficiently. Nice lounge and restaurant space. The shuttle is very convenient.

I found it ridiculous that you couldn't even print in the business centre without paying the exorbitant internet fees. When will these hotels introduce reasonable or complimentary wireless access. It's crazy.

We had originally booked the Copthorne Central, but following the February earthqake we had to move hotels and booked the Commodore Airport Hotel.

On arrival at the hotel, the Duty Manager, Jaimie, sorted our reservation and walked us to our room, as well as showing us the room facilities. We were well impressed with everything and by the welcome / level of comfort at this hotel. Airport hotels are normally just a place to rest your head after a long flight, however, this hotel is actually a delight to stay in.

The room was very comfortable, bright, clean and airy. Air conditioning was very good with tea coffee faclites and a great bathroom.

The breakfasts are served in Pattersons restaurant and had a lot to choose from.

We actually stayed here twice, once on arriving into Christchurch and again the night before leaving to go home.

The Copthorne Hotel Commodore Christchurch Airport, New Zealand is a great hotel and one not to be missed. Thanks to all at the hotel for making our stay as pleasant as possible - we were sad to leave such a nice location for a stay.

The Copthorne is a great place to spend the night if you happen to have an overnight stopover at Christchurch airport. It is literally a few minutes’ drive or about a 10min walk from the airport terminal to the hotel. The hotel is very high standard and I could find very little to fault it.

The location of the hotel is great, about 1km from Christchurch airport. However if you are planning on staying longer than 1 night and looking around Christchurch, you are better off staying some place nearer to the city. The rooms are of very high quality, tastefully furnished to a NZ theme, spotlessly clean and well-maintained. The rooms are large and have great amenities like huge plasma TV and comfortable king-size bed. The rooms are well sound-insulated and I was able to enjoy a very peaceful sleep. There is Wifi internet but it costs extra (about NZ$20/day).

The service was very good, with all staff being very friendly and attentive, really going the extra yards to ensure an enjoyable stay. Check-in and check-out went very smoothly and efficiently. The complimentary on-demand shuttle was a real bonus – no waiting around in getting to and from the airport - very impressive.

The hotel has nice recreational facilities including pool, jacuzzi, sauna and gym. I only managed to use the gym and found it to be nothing great, but acceptable. There are 3 or 4 good quality cardio machines, a small assortment of weight machines, and a complete set of dumbbells. There is just enough weight equipment to get a basic workout, with a little imagination.

Overall I was very impressed with this place, finding it to be a very high standard all around. I don’t really have any complaints except that the gym was barely adequate. As for value, I found it to be fairly mediocre at NZ$240/night, about what I’d expect to pay for a hotel like this in NZ. Yes, I recommend it to other travelers who require a transit stopover in Chrictchurch, and I will definitely stay here again.

After originally booking a city centre hotel we were forced to changed our plans and ended up booking with the Commodore for the night before our early morning flight. We were absolutely delighted with our stay and could not fault the hotel in any way. After a long drive from Dunedin we were glad to chill out in the pool before taking advantage of our two complimentary drinks vouchers for the hotel bar that we were given upon check in. Our executive room was nicely finished with a large TV and a comfy sofa so we decided to order room service and have an early night. The pizza we ordered was very tasty and also reasonably priced. In the morning we used the free bus from the hotel to the airport and were able to go from bed to airport in a very short time. We enjoyed every aspect of our stay at the Copthorne and would consider stying here again, even when the city centre is up and running again. The staff were very helpful even down to asking what airline we were flying with and advising that jet star were quite tight on check in times and to allow extra time to make sure we were at the airport on time. We really appreciated this sort of customer service and would be happy to stay again

Stayed here due to the earthquake and the close proximity to the airport. Room was spacious, comfortable and clean. Airport noise was virtually unnoticeable. Check-in was quick and made easy with the assistance of the bellman, who was friendly and efficient. The restaurant was surprisingly good for a hotel facility. The lounge area was a good place to enjoy a glass of New Zealand wine. Internet available in the room for a charge. Transportation to the airport is quick and available on demand. The only thing wrong with our stay is the charge added to our credit card after checkout for mini-bar beverages that we did not use. A few emails did get this corrected. Overall, a very good airport hotel.

Room Tip: Book directly with the hotel.

Flying out of Christchurch on a 7 AM flight made staying at this hotel convenient. Upon check-in, though, we realized it was much more than convenient. It was impressive! Front desk personnel (both at check-in and check-out) were friendly and efficient. Every staff member we encountered was extremely cordial, even when just passing in the hall. We had reserved a superior room, and it was most definitely superior. Very clean, spacious quiet and secure, with a garden view. Free shuttle service to & from the airport upon demand – no sitting around waiting. Drivers were prompt, courteous and friendly. Burnside Park, a huge sports park, is within walking distance. A walk around the park is a great, relaxing way to stretch your legs before or after a long flight. The experience at the Copthorne Hotel Commodore was a pleasant ending to an already incredible 3-week stay on the South Island.
