We stayed for two nights prior to departing NZ after a 9 day holiday in the South Island of NZ. The hotel is well located, and although only a couple of minutes from the airport, there was very little aircraft noise.
We had a large well appointed room with a QS and 2 single beds. It also had a large flat screen tv with sky channels, a wet bar area with fridge and microwave, plenty of storage space and an additional 'vanity' area outside the bathroom which gave greater flexibility for a family of 4 sharing the same facilities. Our ground floor room was at the rear of the hotel and backed on to a beautiful fernery with waterfall and stream. The only down side was the room was too warm and stuffy at night , the room temp appeared to be fixed at 23.7 degrees and could not be altered. The window opened only a few centimetres and while there was a large sliding glass door, it had no fly screen so we did not feel comfortable sleeping with it wide open at night. Hence we had two nights of tossing and turning in what would have otherwise been very comfortable beds!
The hotel has excellent facilities, including a tennis court, with complimemtrary rackets and balls. It also has a gym and indoor pool with spa and sauna and the use of complimentary towels.
It is a 17-20 minute drive into Christchurch CBD, with Westfield shopping centre at Riccarton only 10 minutes drive away.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Christchurch and wishing to be in close proximity to the airport.

The Copthorne is an excellent place to stay when you have just flown into Christchurch. The free shuttle took us from the airport to the hotel, although they are just as happy to take you to the shops in the shuttle bus.

The swimming pool was nice and clean, and there was a sauna and gym. If you want the sauna, it takes 30 mins to warm up, so get it going while you swim.

The food for dinner was good, and the breakfast was nice. Service was good. We stayed in some rooms in an extension at the back, but they weren't too far away. They put us in two adjoining rooms as requested.

The rooms were spotless and very clean.

We loved this hotel, and would definitely stay again.

We arrived in Christchurch at 1:00am. After picking up the phone in the arivals lounge and dialling the hotel, a van was there in a matter of minutes - at no charge which was a delightful change from Australian hotels. We were greeted by the driver who wore a suit and made us feel very welcome. The staff at the hotel were friendly and helpful. Drink vouchers were provided upon checkin. The restaurant had well priced delicious meals. If you like seafood chowder I can recommend it. We stayed there again on departure after a motorhoming holiday. Once again the staff went out of their way to accommodate us and drive us back to the airport. Should we go back to Christchurch, we will definitely stay again - probably for a bit longer to enjoy the heated pool, spa, sauna and gym.

excellent hotel for those who want to be near the airport
free shuttle , and free bus tickets to go to the CBD
excellent breakfast and fine bedroom
One worry only : when we left , the reception staff made a mistake : we had already paid via internet , and they debited us once again ...
We found the reaction a little bit slow , with no apologies , and although we were refunded , we lost about 10 $ ( banking fee ...) and we received no answer for our mails about this

except this unfortunate incident , we enjoyed !

We stayed 2 nights 10 days apart. All rooms were of good size with variable views, car park or trees.Bathrooms were good with over bath showers. The swimming pool area outside is subject to the start of some building work but no sign of contractors on site.
The bar and restaurant are fine and breakfast(choice of type and cost) is good.Evening meals are of a good standard. Not fine dining but better than most "airport" hotels. The hotel is about a mile out of the airport on one of the main roads into Christchurch.
The town has a pleasant central area and a series of restaurants adjoining the river. These seem to get busy quite earlyTraffic is not heavy by major UK town standards.
As an airport stopover this hotel was good. The staff are helpful and when their new public access computer system failed to work the printer to do an online check in they tried everything to help including letting us use the hotel system. There is a usage cost.
As far as we were concerned this provided the ideal starting and finishing stop on a tour of South Island

I wanted a hotel airport and this seemed to be best one available. All I can say is that it is much more than just a convenient location. It really is an excellent hotel that gets so many things right. I could have happily stayed here for a week during my trip. Very relaxing but also has the latest technology. The room layout was one of the best I have seen. The only thing missing was a good view but the sense of relaxation more than made up for that. The restaurant was also very good - best lamb from my whole NZ trip. Chirstchurch is not a huge city, so the hotel is convenient to the city centre. I should also point out that I did opt for the business package which I believe offers the best rooms.
