This is a great airport hotel with very friendly staff and with most of the mod cons you would expect of a hotel except air conditioning in the standard bedrooms. We assumed that there would be airconditiong when we booked and we amazed to see a fan in the room instead. This was the start of our trip to New Zealand and we stayed in motels all over the south island -every other motel had airconditioning even the cheapest. In this day and age it should be standard.I am sorry to have to write his as the hotel in every other respect was very good and the staff were among the most friendly we met.

Most travelers don't think of great airport hotels- but the Copthorne Commodore is as close to a great airport hotel as we have seen- quality, service, value. It is well located to the airport and Antarctic Center, but a modest drive to the CBD. The hotel is located on large, attractively landscaped grounds and feels isolated and luxurious. Check in was quick and efficient- and then the desk clerk helped us take our luggage to our room and introduced us to the hotel and to Ken- the hotel cat. The room was large with excellent furnishings, a 42" plasma TV and lots of channels ( a first on our trip). The room included a refer, microwave, large closet and a very large bathroom. The bed, linens, towels and amenities were very good. While the internet was not complementary, it was almost reasonable. The US$146 rate included two US$19 breakfasts- an excellent value! The breakfasts were a combination of buffet and menu- excellent quality and selection. The bar and restaurant were above average in quality and value for most any corporate airport hotel. Check out was friendly and efficient. I dropped off a note at checkout about a couple of minor maintenance items in the room- I had an email the next day from the general manager thanking me for identifying the items and assuring us they would be fixed immeditately. Yes, quality, service and value- can not ask for much more.

This hotel deserves praise. We arrived to find quite major renovations going on in the main public areas and our hearts sank. We need not have worried. The room we were given was far away from the noise, spacious and comfortable. A free bus pass gets you into and around the city with ease. Everybody gets a free drink at the bar. The following morning we took free bikes and cycled around the local area. When we got back to the hotel they gave us a late check out. It was really busy in the bar area with a conference and it was also noisy with the building works. We stood for a couple of seconds wondering where to sit for a while and wait for our free transfer to the airport when the manager rushed up and said he would find us somewhere to sit and treat us to a free drink! He also asked the builders to stop making a noise! He knew who we were and that our flight was not until later in the afternoon even though we had never seen him. This is a family run hotel and the attention to guest satisfaction is outstanding. A great experience.

We were here just for a day and wanted to stay close to the airport. I was expecting a business hotel but was pleasantly surprised by a few things:
- When we checked in we got free bus passes to go to the city center and the bus stops right at the hotel
- We got complimentary drink coupons for the hotel bar
- There was a free shuttle to and from the airport
- The staff is quite friendly and helpful
- The food in the restaurant is nice

The only downside was that there was no free internet available.

This was our third stay at the Copthorne Commodore and once again we were well taken care of and happy with our choice. The rooms are comfortably large, well furnished and well maintained. The staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. The hotel appears to be very well managed. The restaurant is great for any meal but especially for breakfast, which is often hard to find in New Zealand. The free shuttle to or from the airport makes for convenient transfers if you're traveling by air. Parking space is plentiful and is available without charge. The hotel is just a few minutes from the airport, but not close enough to create a noise problem, and is located on a bus route providing easy access to the city, where parking may be a problem. During our stay, the hotel gave us free round-trip bus passes, making the bus trip into town even more attractive. Christchurch summers are generally mild but may have some hot periods. If you feel you need an air-conditioned room, be sure to ask for one in the "business" section of the hotel. There's a surcharge for this but these rooms include some other nice upgrades in addition to air conditioning.

We stayed for two nights prior to departing NZ after a 9 day holiday in the South Island of NZ. The hotel is well located, and although only a couple of minutes from the airport, there was very little aircraft noise.
We had a large well appointed room with a QS and 2 single beds. It also had a large flat screen tv with sky channels, a wet bar area with fridge and microwave, plenty of storage space and an additional 'vanity' area outside the bathroom which gave greater flexibility for a family of 4 sharing the same facilities. Our ground floor room was at the rear of the hotel and backed on to a beautiful fernery with waterfall and stream. The only down side was the room was too warm and stuffy at night , the room temp appeared to be fixed at 23.7 degrees and could not be altered. The window opened only a few centimetres and while there was a large sliding glass door, it had no fly screen so we did not feel comfortable sleeping with it wide open at night. Hence we had two nights of tossing and turning in what would have otherwise been very comfortable beds!
The hotel has excellent facilities, including a tennis court, with complimemtrary rackets and balls. It also has a gym and indoor pool with spa and sauna and the use of complimentary towels.
It is a 17-20 minute drive into Christchurch CBD, with Westfield shopping centre at Riccarton only 10 minutes drive away.
We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone staying in Christchurch and wishing to be in close proximity to the airport.

The Copthorne is an excellent place to stay when you have just flown into Christchurch. The free shuttle took us from the airport to the hotel, although they are just as happy to take you to the shops in the shuttle bus.

The swimming pool was nice and clean, and there was a sauna and gym. If you want the sauna, it takes 30 mins to warm up, so get it going while you swim.

The food for dinner was good, and the breakfast was nice. Service was good. We stayed in some rooms in an extension at the back, but they weren't too far away. They put us in two adjoining rooms as requested.

The rooms were spotless and very clean.

We loved this hotel, and would definitely stay again.
