“Good way to start South Island trips.”
Reviewed 23 August 2014

This hotel 2 bedroom apartment is very big and spacey. Many amenities are available, including a fully stocked kitchen and the beds are comfortable, including the sofa bed.

The kitchen is well equipped but the kettle and heater together will trip the circuits if you are not careful. Our bathroom is equipped with a large spa tub and a seperate shower, it is a little strange that the separating door in the loo separates the shower from the loo and tub rather than the loo being on the outside.

The hotel staff are very friendly and helpful, the poor bellhop waited and walked to the room while we drove, helping us move our luggage to the room in the cold. When I pointed out that a guestroom for 5 people should not have a limited "free" wifi of 20 minutes per room, they came out with an alternative plan that helped us greatly as 5 people with 6 smart devices really need much more than 20 minutes of usage.

A little sad part is that there is a pool and jacuzzi available, but they are outdoor and the pool (I was crazy and tested it) was freezing cold.

Thank you your comments.
Its great to see you enjoyed the spaciousness of the deluxe 2 bedroom apartment - it is ideal for a stay any longer than 1 night or particularly with more than 4 people.
Our staff are continuously recognised for their friendliness and its really pleasing to have it acknowledged as it encourages their continued enthusiasm to please our guests.
Happy your WIFI issues were sorted, however it may benefit others who are reading this site that from1 Septemer 2014 we will have free WIFI unlimited.
Our pool is fantastic in the summer and I agree really cold in winter (generally nobody uses it). However the very brave do just what you did and hope straight from the pool to the spa.
I am really glad that we have provided you a great start to your trip and I am sure you will enjoy the South Island - it is after all the most beautiful island:)

Love staying here, the staff are very friendly and welcoming, and even an offer to help carry the bags. There is loads of off street parking. The restaurant is great, and the room service quick. There is a variety of rooms which are all comfortable and very clean. Love the way the heaters are turned on and the curtains drawn if you arrive a little late. One of my favourite places to stay.

We stayed for just one night taking the bed and breakfast option.
The cost was cheap and the room old and tired.
The spa bath sounded like it was going to blow up and made a terrible grinding noise.

Worst of all was being woken up at 3am with an explosion and putrid smell from the electric blanket catching fire.

By way of compensation we were offered a free breakfast that we had payed for anyway.

Not sure if it was bad luck or lack of maintenance that caused our problems but certainly wouldn't choose to stay there next time.

We appreciate you taking time to post comment on here, it is so disappointing to get such a comment after all the fantastic comments we receive here on Trip Advisor. Firstly I can confirm that I checked your original booking and it did not include breakfast in the price I am happy to clarify this with you if you would like to contact me. We have checked the spa bath in the room you stayed and there is no problem with this - perhaps the water level was not over the jets?
The electric blankets are under our maintenance program and are replaced annually. We understand that this may have blown - however there was no fire and we did check on this also. I think by reading other reviews on here with our high level of service and cleanliness you have experienced bad luck and I am sorry we did not meet your expectations on this occasion.

Yet another wonderful stay in this delightful family owned and operated Christchurch Hotel. As per my previous review earlier this year The Horncastle Family and all the wonderful staff at The Pavillions make your stay here most comfortable and enjoyable. From the moment you check in to the moment you check out, the smiling, helpful manner of everyone at this lovely hotel adds so much to your visit in Christchurch. Whether you are there on business, vacation, a weekend away or simply a night out you will not be disappointed.
The rooms are clean, light, spacious and if you are visiting in winter the in room heaters are extremely efficient.
The restaurant....well what can I say....yet again blown away with the top notch exquisite dining experience. From breakfast to evening meal the food is in a class of it's own. I have done a lot of dining out in New Zealand over the years and I have to say their Lamb is the best I have ever had !!!!
A huge thanks again Pavillions and a huge pat on the back for continuing to make your hotel such a delightful experience whilst in Christchurch !!!

For the past year I have overnighted in Christchurch at least monthly and always try before I buy. Only Pavillions gave me that sense of friendly familiarity. With obviously good staff retention, familiar faces and surroundings mean a lot. I have had a need to accommodate my staff for sometimes more than a month at a time so for them it is a home away from home. Their feedback too has been nothing but positive.

Thank you for taking your time to post a review. I have to say our staff are fantastic and well rewarded and recognised for their commitment to customer service focus. You are correct our staff retention is fantastic so most of our staff know the guests and just what they need - it really does help. Thank you also for choosing us as your home away from home for you and your staff we do really enjoy our regular faces along with the new as well.

Ive stayed here a couple of times as its very close for access to both St Georges and Christchurch Hospitals. There is a lot to select on Papanui Road, so there are a few others to consider.
The last time is tayed i had a room in the main complex that had a door that struggled to close - result is that it opened during the night so lucky i had the chain on. I guess that this is a legacy of the Quake. But in this case there can be a lot of hallway light coming in even when the door is closed.
The rooms are fine and very comfortable. The Bathrooms I do struggle with as there is an unfrosted window that sits in front of the wash basin/mirror. So the blinds are always down.
Internet is $15 per day. From an Oz perspective its ok, but i still think no one should have to pay for internet in any Hotel.
Didnt eat in the Restaurant, but the menu looks good. However its not too far to some good quality restaurants and pubs.
Overall it ticks the boxes. I didnt have to park so cant comment.
Its not the Millennium or Heritage or Crowne Plaza. (all gone) But in the scope of my needs in CHCH it is a good quality Hotel that i feel comfortable in.

Room Tip: Most rooms i have had have had a Queen AND a single Bed. If you are on the ground floor many rooms...

Thank you for your review. From the comments you have made I think the next time you stay you may be more comfortable in either E wing in our standard rooms (which will take away many of the comments you have made), or perhaps paying a little more for a Superior or Executive room - if you mention this review next time you book we may be able to upgrade you free of charge if we have availability so that you can see the difference. With regards to WIFI you will be pleased to know that from 1 September 2014 we will be having free WIFI. Look forward to your next stay with us and really appreciate your feedback.
