Not bad, had a 3-4 star feel rooms were clean but quite dated.

Staff were friendly, there were a couple of mildly annoying incidents fell below normal hotel customer service levels.

Someone slipped up and forgot to order a taxi for us, no big deal normal reaction is to apologise.
Also I wanted some additional information on how the in house movies work, the lady at reception needed prompting past "I don't know"
Having said that Christchurch people have been though a lot lately, its hard to know, what individuals have been though.

I stayed at the Chateau on the Park for meetings in July 2011. The room (Deluxe) was of good size and very well presented in terms of cleanliness and quality of furnishings, with the exception of the TV which was quite old and small.
Reception, restaurant and bar staff were very friendly and accommodating, and the Concierge was extremely fast in following up when I notified the hotel after my stay realising I had left something behind. The item was sent to me in Australia within four days.
I'd definitely stay again at the hotel.

We recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Christchurch. Our room was spacious and well-equipped, and the hotel was undoubtedly one of the best we stayed at during our NZ trip. It is not very central, but the walk across the botanical gardens into downtown Christchurch was delightful. Of course, the earthquake has now changed everything and we wish this hotel and the whole city all the best for what will be a difficult future.

Stayed at Chateau on the Park for a wedding and received a great rate which included a buffet breakfast for two. The rooms are very modern and the hotel has some beautiful gardens. Lots of parking available. All staff very welcoming and friendly. The only downfall was our room was located right next to the laundry which you could hear the housekeepers early in the morning. I did however enjoy my stay and would love to stay there again.

We booked for a week at this hotel in February for a bit of R&R. The building is an interesting interpretation of a "chateau" with a "mini moat", and truly beautiful gardens. Although arriving at 1:30am, check in was quick . We had two different rooms due to a last minute change we made in our booking. They were very similar, on the third floor, both very quiet, but the first was an executive room, with different decor and linen. I have to say we actually preferred the second room, with its warmer colours and a standard blanket and quilt. We are not big fans of the duvet, where you have to take the inner part out of the cover if you only want a light blanket.

The walk into town through the park was beautiful, and just a nice length to stretch your legs.

We highly recommend the restaurant. The food was absolutely superb! And we planned to dine there again, but such plans were foiled by a certain major seismic event...

What really set this hotel apart for us was the staff. They were so friendly and helpful, even though tested to the limits by the events that occurred on the Tuesday. Luckily for us, we had taken a train trip that day, and were in Picton when the quake struck. Travellers were asked not to return to Christchurch. The hotel itself was closed due to some damage, but the staff maintained contact via a mobile phone. We had to fly home via Wellington without our luggage, including our laptop.

Despite all the worries caused by the earthquake, the hotel staff continued to keep us informed of developments. Once the all clear was given to go back into the hotel, they went into our room, packed all our things and stored our bags. A very special "Thank you" to the Chief Concierge, Chris Stirling, who went to great lengths to assist with organising to get our luggage back to us in Australia, including taking it to the airport for collection.

Christchurch is a wonderful city, and we hope to go back once it is on its feet again. And we will most certainly be staying at the Chateau!

We stayed here for 1 night, 5 years ago and remembered that it was a pleasant hotel, offering a free shuttle service to Christchurch Airport.
Five years on and it has not changed much, so looks a little jaded, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and the sleep superb.
Breakfast is a plentiful buffet and I was able to get Soya Milk on request.
The restaurant is noisy in the evening as it is open to the paying public, but you can get a decent pub meal in the bar.
Free shuttle bus to the centre of Christchurch in case you don't fancy the 20 minute walk through the park, but unfortunately, they have stopped the free airport shuttle service.
If you try walking in the opposite direction to the city centre, you will find a big shopping centre with restaurants and a cinema within 10 mins of the hotel - just ask at reception for directions.
For golfers, you can get clubs to play the local park 9 hole all for 10 NZD.
We stayed for 6 nights and found it to be excellent value.

We stayed twice at the Chateau on our NZ trip. Booking on-line gave us an exceptional rate for what is a pleasant hotel surrounded by gardens and adjacent to the main Christchurch park. The rooms are a good size and fairly well appointed although, as usual, short of storage space for long term travelers. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially the concierge. There is a pool, restaurant and bar. We used them all - the pool was best. For those wanting a city center location this will depend on how much you like walking. It's a 20 minutes stroll across the park but be careful to orient yourself or it can take much longer - this is a big park. The hotel runs a free shuttle but it doesn't go very often or very late so its then a taxi or a walk.
Overall this is a nice, green (garden not eco) place at a very good price.
We recommend the Botanic Gardens, an Indian restaurant just round the corner from the hotel called Argi Bargi, the trams and any restaurant the concierge suggests.
