“Quiet spot convenient for City center”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 March 2009

Hotel was fine and location suited us as it is a reasonably quiet spot with a pleasant walk across Hagley Park into the city passing the Botanical Gardens on the way. Room was spacious and doors open on to a garden area with private seating. Breakfast was adequate, no frills. Didn't eat in the hotel in the evening but plenty of good restaurants just a walk across the Park, would recommend "Cooking With Gas" on Worcester Boulevard where we had an excellent meal. Also found the tram system a good way of setting around the City.

After a long flight from Singapore we had mixed first impressions of this hotel but all in all we had a very pleasant stay. The room was comfortable and clean but unfortunately we were awoken early both mornings by coaches parking to collect day trippers. We didn't use the restuarant but the bar meals were excellent and good value for money. The hotel is a pleasant 25 min walk through Hagley Park from the city centre.

My Husband and myself stayed at the Chateau on the Park last year and enjoyed it so much we decided to stay again this year. We were not disapointed. The staff are always friendly and the rooms are very clean. The pool also is a good size. Set in a lovely garden.
Sebastian the house cat always makes our visit very special.

This time we booked through Wotif for $90.00. (Aust) for our first night. (we then did a tour of the South Island) We were able to get a great deal through Rates to Go for our last night which included Wine, full cooked breakfast and late check out for about $130.00. (Aust) excellent value. The Chateau does a free shuttle bus into the city but it is only about half hour flat walk through lovely parkland if you are feeling energetic. Only thing is that we liked the balcony rooms the best so its worth asking if one is available.

  • Liked — Just far enough out of the city but not cut off.
  • Disliked — The room without a balcony

Stayed here in October on the last leg of our tour of NZ. The hotel is a little way out of the city centre but if the weather is right a very pleasant stroll through Hagley Park takes about 30 minutes. Alternatively there is a free shuttle bus at regular intervals. The hotel is a sprawl of walkways and corridors and can be quite difficult to navigate. With this in mind you are presented with a map on checking in. The staff are professional but curt. Not many pleasantries or smiles. Our room was comfortable with all the expected amenities for the price paid. The down side was that it was a little dated and not as clean as it might be. (lots of long black hairs in the bathroom and on the bedding). The bar was great and the bar meals were pretty good and keenly priced. Kerri the barmaid was probably the best barmaid i have ever encountered.
All in all a great place to stay if you can get it at the right price. In fact it is unique with its gardens, vineyards and hidden retreats and i would have no qualms about staying there again

  • Liked — unique and interesting

The hotel is situated on the outskirts of Christchurch, which took us around 30 minutes to get to the city centre on foot. The hotel is a little tired but nevertheless very clean. We got a great deal with bookinhotels paying about 50% of the advertised usual rates. We stayed in what we presume wa their most basic room, which was more than adequate, extremely large, with bath and seperate shower. The room was serviced daily. Room was equipped with fridge and cable tv (albeit just one free movie channel and one free sports).

We didnt eat at the hotel so cannot comment on that, althought just a short walk (5-10 mins) around the corner (away from the city) you can find one of Christchurchs largest shopping malls with many restaurants around the area.

The best thing about the hotel we're it's FREE amenities. It is opposite the golf course, they will give you you clubs and cart and free pass at reception, they also advertise tennis although it was a little windy for that. We also hired free mountain bikes, they did advertise a cost although I can only presume this was for better bikes. They had a nice looking pool and jacuzzi although again it was too cold for this.

For the price we paid I would say it was great value for Christchurch, maybe a little far from the city centre - but I can only think you need to visit the town centre once anyway! I would have liked free wireless internet which seems to be offered at virtually every other hotel/motel in town.

  • Liked — Free Golf, Free Bike Hire
  • Disliked — No Wireless Interent

For a four star hotel, you would expect some basic level of comfort, but from a room with wallpaper thin walls, to a breakfast that seemed to rival that of motorway service stations, I very much regretted staying there. We upgraded to the next level of room, and if that was the executive room I'd hate to see the standard one. Finally, we found numerous hairs on the foot spa (cerca 1970) and had mold in the bathroom.

This is a lovely hotel with many facilities. They have swimming pool, bars, several restaurants, beautiful gardens and plenty of parking spaces. The interior decor of the lobby is fantastic with an indoor fish aquarium. The room is spacious with own balcony but the carpet could be improved, the carpet was a bit damp and quite dirty.
About 5 minutes drive to city centre and conveniently close to botanical garden.

  • Liked — Excellent price for the facilities of the hotel
  • Disliked — Not within walking distance to shops/public transport.
