“Good, Reasonably Priced Hotel”
Reviewed 7 February 2011

We stayed here for 1 night, 5 years ago and remembered that it was a pleasant hotel, offering a free shuttle service to Christchurch Airport.
Five years on and it has not changed much, so looks a little jaded, but the rooms are clean and comfortable and the sleep superb.
Breakfast is a plentiful buffet and I was able to get Soya Milk on request.
The restaurant is noisy in the evening as it is open to the paying public, but you can get a decent pub meal in the bar.
Free shuttle bus to the centre of Christchurch in case you don't fancy the 20 minute walk through the park, but unfortunately, they have stopped the free airport shuttle service.
If you try walking in the opposite direction to the city centre, you will find a big shopping centre with restaurants and a cinema within 10 mins of the hotel - just ask at reception for directions.
For golfers, you can get clubs to play the local park 9 hole all for 10 NZD.
We stayed for 6 nights and found it to be excellent value.

We stayed twice at the Chateau on our NZ trip. Booking on-line gave us an exceptional rate for what is a pleasant hotel surrounded by gardens and adjacent to the main Christchurch park. The rooms are a good size and fairly well appointed although, as usual, short of storage space for long term travelers. Staff are friendly and helpful, especially the concierge. There is a pool, restaurant and bar. We used them all - the pool was best. For those wanting a city center location this will depend on how much you like walking. It's a 20 minutes stroll across the park but be careful to orient yourself or it can take much longer - this is a big park. The hotel runs a free shuttle but it doesn't go very often or very late so its then a taxi or a walk.
Overall this is a nice, green (garden not eco) place at a very good price.
We recommend the Botanic Gardens, an Indian restaurant just round the corner from the hotel called Argi Bargi, the trams and any restaurant the concierge suggests.

We stayed only one night but it was a terrific stay yet terrifying! We chose this hotel because it was so close to the train station where we caught the TransAlpine train across to Greymouth (..the most comfortable train ride anywhere) but abit of a walk (through the lovely park) to the CBD. On arrival, we were greeted in a warm and welcoming manner by all staff, especially by a lovely Japanese lady (apologies for not remembering your name). We had a room on the ground floor where the doors opened out onto the back entrance of the hotel but the view was lovely and nice to have a couple of outdoor chairs provided for guests. The room and bathroom were spacious, comfortable and very clean overall. The only items that we would fault on were the coffee cups and teaspoons, they needed to be scrubbed properly. The style of the hotel had a nice old world charm and the gardens throughout the entire place were beautiful and immaculate. It's a great place to spend a few days in for total relaxation and not needing to venture out for anything. Shame the day spa was closed while we were there but that's another reason for staying there. We got room service for dinner and it was terrific! Reasonable priced menu good portions, tasty and done with abit of care (which is rare these days). Now the terrifying part of our stay was the earthquake! At 2am in the morning we ran out of our room and onto the grass area where we met up with others who were just as disturbed byt it! Never in our lives had we such an experience and were fortunate that we had left Christchurch the following morning and escaped a bigger after -shock!! It was certainly a night to remember! Overall a wonderful stay in a wonderful hotel in a beautiful city!

A real pleasure staying in a hotel which is not a soulless high rise block.
Very attractive garden. Shuttle service simplifies getting to the centre.
Nice touches - emails a few days in advance of check in and after departure.
Food in the restaurant was excellent

Newly weds that stayed here for 10 days and In the honey moon suite, had our Wedding Reception here in the Camelot Function room and Can't wait to go back to stay their again for our first wedding anniverssary and relieve the magic. I booked a good deal on their long stay website $595 for two people for 7 nights including buffet breakfast every morning of our stay.

We awoke every morning and headed down the slated walkway and admired their gardens as we ate their beutiful breakfast every morning. Ideal parking and well equipped gym.

Loved every moment we stayed their it felt secure and homely the staff were so lovely and attentitive to everything that we needed. I would reccommend them and their wedding Package to anyone.

My stay here was PRE-EARTHQUAKE. Older property, rooms slightly outdated but comfy. Good location just out of CBD and not too far from the airport.
