The motel is pleasantly situated on the edge of Hagley Park and easy to locate, whether arriving by road or from the airport (which is conveniently accessible). It is a pleasant walk across the park and botanical gardens to the city centre, although too far (and unsuitable) in the evening for city centre restaurants. However, there are several restaurants/eating places just round the corner. As a previous reviewer commented, none are great restaurants but there are sufficient decent places for a few nights (and a decent café that does good breakfasts), and the cheerful hosts – Bruce and Maggie – are very helpful in advising where these are.

The room was comfortable and well equipped, and we would certainly stay there again.

Location was great, right across from Hagley Park, around the corner from bus stops, restaurants and market, quiet during the night. Fully equipped kitchen and nice furniture - everything needed for comfortable stay over several days. Great service, too.

This hotel is going on our list for next time! It doesn't need a spa or fitness room because there is a huge park & botanic garden across the street. It's small so nighttime is quiet for good sleep. Staff lives on site and are very helpful and cheerful, more like a B&B than a big hotel (and they will cook breakfast for a small fee, and deliver to your room).

We spent the first two nights of our 9-day South Island trip here and it was great! Maggie and Bruce simply could not have been friendlier. We had a corner room with a nice view of the park. We were concerned that it might be noisy, being that close to the street, but no, we slept very soundly. Double-glazed windows have apparently helped, as noise was not an issue at all. Also, with the electric blanket on low, the bed was very cozy and comfortable.
Terrific rates for such a clean motel, 5 minutes drive to Cathedral Square, 5 minutes walk to many restaurants (not great ones, mind you, but decent eateries). Full kitchen, cozy room. The hosts helped us with directions, suggestions, even loaned us several DVDs to watch. What a great way to start our visit to New Zealand. Highly recommended.

We stayed here twice on our trip around New Zealand. Our first stay was for 2 nights on our arrival into New Zealand. This was a very late arrival but had been pre-booked by email. Everything was ready as arranged including fresh milk for a cup of tea. On this occasion we used the motel for a two night rest. The room had a king size bed, en suite facilities, a fridge and cooking facilities Maggie and Bruce were very helpful with local information and arranging transfers to the railway station.
We returned for a further 3 day stay and on this occasion had a larger room with similar facilities, but on this occasion we had a seperate bedroom. Again the standards of cleanliness and helpfulness were excellent.
The Motel is about a 15 minute walk through Hagley Park and the Botanical Gardens to the city centre of Christchurch.. We ended our trip to NZ on a real high, helped by the stay at this location.

Rooms very spacious with kitchenettes. Staff was helpful. Stayed here for three nights and was great location to leave from for touring. A rental car was helpful to get around. Didnt see many cabs. Airport was 10 minute drive.
