“Grand Architecture”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 January 2009

We stayed in the Old Govt Building for 1 night during our Honeymoon. We loved the grandeur of the architecture and is the most appealing point. We stayed in a split level room which was nice, clean and basic in fitout - the high windows and doors accentuated the grand feel. Our room overlooked the tramway, so there was a little noise. Nice central location, but Christchurch isn't that big after all and we had our own hire car. Overall I would recommend.

Uninspiring hotel in the center of Christchurch. We had a superior room just beside the elevators, which were kind of noisy. looby is quite boring and the bar etc is in a seperate building. Pool also in seperate building. The whole place is geared to corporate types.

transfered from another apartment hotel due to flooding, we were well pleased, a clean, classy large two bed apartment, two stories, well equipped, old Town Hall building, centere of city, what else could you ask for. Pool had no place to change, only quibble. Staff, well usual corporate NZ don't expect much, you won't get it.

This hotel has a great loaction but not much else. Pretty standard coporate style rooms which were relatively clean but pretty uninspiring. Not a good breakfast offered by the hotel but Christchurch has lots of good cafes within a short walk.

We spent two nights at the Heritage and stayed in one of the suites in the old government building. The suite was incredible -- they were well appointed and luxurious. They were two levels with the kitchen and living area on the first floor and a sort of loft area/second floor that served as the bedroom. There were two tvs, a functioning kitchen, and a washer/dryer combination. The hotel was centrally located and made a great base for exploring Christchurch, and the concierge got us a very hard to get dinner reservation on short notice. My only complaint was the heat -- the old government building is not equipped with air conditioning and while it's ok with the windows open, it's a bit noisy to sleep with them open, but sweltering with them closed. There's a ceiling fan, and you can request a second fan, which we probably should have done.

Stayed here for one night as part of our month long honeymoon. Hotel is a really useful location for exploring Christchurch. The service is excellent and the room we stayed in was really spacious.

Best thing about this hotel is the location - right in the centre of town. You couldn't be in a better place.

Its one of those hotels which is comfortable, clean and nothing I could particularly complain about. The one bedroom suite I had was large and well serviced and had a little kitchenette with full cooking facilities.

The gym was good for a hotel gym with a nice jacuzzi and sauna. The pool was small (long but not wide) so was basically a lap pool for swimming rather than relaxing - which was fine for me, but may not be for some.

However, the hotel was getting a bit fraid around the edges and the service in places wasn't that of a 4 star hotel.

All in all though a perfectly decent hotel and reasonably good value given its rating. I would stay again.
