“Beautiful, spacious room”
Reviewed 29 October 2009

We booked a family room on a school holiday special. It was really spacious with a large lounge with lovely big dining room table. Kitchen had everything we could want. Bedrooms were upstairs and were a good size. Two bathrooms. Was great place for young kids, but would also be good for two couples. Flat screen tvs, dvd player and sky tv.
Really central being right in the square and easy to walk all around town. Right beside the catherdral.
Staff were friendly but not overly helpful.
Restaurant was great for breakfast with everything available that we could possibly have wanted.
Would love to go back and stay for longer.

My husband and I had three nights in a Deluxe room. It was a great experience, the entire staff from check-in to housekeeping were friendly and helpful. Breakfast and valet parking was included in our package price, which was value for money. The breakfasts in the Maddison Restaurant were excellent with a great variety. The Concierge Team were very helpful and nothing was too much trouble. I would most definitely recommend this hotel to my family or friends.

We got this hotel on a Wot Secret hotel so paid next to nothing for it, and expected a regular hotel. We also didn't know Christchurch so hoped it was in a good location.
This hotel was absolutely stunning - we had a suite which has a massive bathroom, bed area, dressing area and kitchenette - bathrobes included! It was an absolutely stunning room - the best we've ever stayed in. The location is absolutely perfect as well. We didn't need the car for anything because it is literally in the middle of Christchurch. The service was excellent, we had valet parking included in our tariff and the car was always there when we needed it.

Would HIGHLY recommend it

We stayed at this hotel in Christchurch on a recent trip and it was wonderful. We had a two bedroom suite in the old government building part of the hotel and it was one of the nicest places we have ever stayed. For the price, the space, cleanliness and ambiance of the room made it excellent value. It's location in Cahederal Square made it easy to get to all Christchurch's attractions. The beds were comfortable (in fact my daughter had a Goldilocks moment and said she had been waiting for her "just right" bed and she found it at the Heritage). I would highly recommend this hotel.

We had this hotel picked for us and did not know what to expect except for the central location. Well it is in the centre alright, right next to the Catherdal.

I knew there was a valet parking ($17 per day), so when we turned up in our Rental we gave them the keys, they gave us the reference card and we went inside to check in. Nice and easy.

Our room was a standard double, had good views though as it was on the 11 floor. The room was quite nice, nothing overly luxerious, but the bed was huge (two singles put together but you couldn't feel it), and it was cleaned daily. Heating dial in room. SkyTV though odd setup. Only thing in the room that I would want to point out was the water pressure in the shower, it could have been better but I think they have implemented a save water scheme. We did hear music outside for around an hour, it wasn't bad and it was a saturday.

We had breakfast once at Madisons (the hotel restaurant in the newer part of the hotel). Chose to get al carte rather then the buffet. Prob should have got the buffet as its around $20, and my $18 breakfast was basically the same food. But it was nice. Didn't get a chance to see the lap pool.

The next day we had breakfast at Drexels Breakfast Restaurant which EVERYONE must try, its American breakfast diner at its best, loved it. Bookings essential, we just walked in and had to sit at the breakfast bar as there was two of us, it was fine though. Only pay for the first coffee which we didn't realise.

We also went down SOLO Square I think it was, great little side alley with a funky 60's themed Fish and Chip restaurant. We had a good meal as a SKY rugby game was on the oppisite building on a giant tv screen. Would prob choose a different main but the entree's and desert made up for it... best. onion. rings. ever.

We did the gondala, Museum and Botanical Gardens, but our main activity was the trip to Hanmer where we went quad biking and jet boating with Thrillseekers Canyon Adventure. We found they offered great value. The quad biking was so scenic and the jetboating longer then normal (30-45min)... though Queenstowns 15min one I have heard has better corners etc. Plus on both activities they took heaps of pictures, especially during the quad biking where he stopped all the time to get good shots. Got both activities on a CD for $30.

Anyway back to the hotel... best thing about it was on our last day, we had to check out at 11am but our flight wasn't till 3pm. Was no worries to leave our car there and luggage after we had checked out and to pick it up when we were ready.

Overall I would reccommend it for someone wanting to walk to christchurch bars, hassel free parking and a good quality/amenties hotel. Like I said, I wasn't blown away by the room but it was nice, clean and in good order.... shower could do with a wee bit more pressure :) Oh, and I got charged for a local call, 25 cents! The internet rate is expensive, don't know why.

We stayed five nights at the Heritage because of its location at Cathedral Square in old downtown Christchurch. First impression was similar to a lot of big city downtown hotels. Getting to it by car and finding temporary parking to check in was not a good experience for this American. Pulled in up front and after a few minutes was asked to move so that a tour bus could come in. Not good. Spent 15 minutes circling around downtown on a loop called "parking search" (enough said there). After three loops, wife had checked in and the parking valet was ready to take the car. This hotel is a converted government office building, so some of the room layouts are rather odd. The first two nights we were on the third floor. The room had a marble floor bathroom that had about a 1.25" ledge at the door threshold that protuded above the room's carpeted floor. After two nights, both of us had struck that protrusion while getting up at night. We then went north for a few days and then returned for another pre-booked stay. The second stay we were on the 11th floor for a Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday night. This room did not have the bathroom transiiton ledge, however, it did not have any weatherseal around its sliding window that overlooked Cathedral Square. Friday night while trying to get to sleep we must have overheard every loud drunken conversation from patrons leaving the pubs below. That went on until two Saturday morning. During our first stay, a family emergency back in the states occurred and I had to make a phone call home. They very nicely charged $27.50 just to transfer the call to the long distance operator. Here in the states, wireless internet at a high end hotel is normally complementary (no charge). Not at the Heritatge. A 2 hour session with a mB limit is $10.00 a pop. So wound up paying about $65.00 in internet access charges.

All of that said, the rooms were very clean, the beds were huge; they were actually two twin beds joined together, and the staff was polite and knowlegible about access to local attractions. The location is great for sightseeing Christchurch and the views of the cathedral are spectacular. Best recommendation is to take a shuttle from the airport to the hotel and get a rental car later.

I managed to get a great rate for this hotel and was well please with it. Great location right in the centre of Christchurch. easy walking for shopping and the great resturants around the Avon River. The room was large but a little out dated in areas. The TV was very disappointing, it was like a little 20" in the corner of a huge room, they really could like at updating these things to some nice flat screens. The Spa that was joined to the hotel was fabulous and the pool and spa were aslo great. Great escape for the weekend. Thank you to the Heritage
