This is a fantastic location for running business conferences/workshops at. We have come here repeatedly as the staff are excellent both prior to the workshops & during the event. It is easy to get to, find parking etc. I would recommend The George as your first option for running your business meeting large or small. Lovely location being right next to Hagley Park. I would imagine it would be a fantastic wedding venue too. Food fantastic. Reasonably priced too.

With all the quake damage in Christchurch this hotel stands out as a beacon of high service in Christchurch. Stayed here for 3 weeks and I got to know the hotel and staff very well. Good food, rooms are clean and modern. New entertainment system in the rooms although the price of a movie rental is more than you could just buy the DVD. The gym is off site which is not ideal but Hagley park is across the street and perfect for a good 5 k run. My only complaint are the self washers and dryers which are constantly broken, don't have hot water and just need to be upgraded. Location is perfect for restaurants, park and cbd. Hotel has 4 mountain bikes for guest use which are perfect for getting around town or a longer trek to the beach or hills.

We were passing by and went in for a one off coffee and breakfast. Well we're we in for a surprise, absolutely delicious.
There is continental , a la carte or one with the lot.
My partner tried the grouper and I had traditional, both were wonderful.
Coffee stunning, try their short black.
Well done staff at the George.

Even weeks before we arrived this hotel excelled itself by organising a car hire for us, no big deal you may think but they went the extra mile for us then and this level of caring, high quality service continued once we arrived. With us requiring a separate bed for our son the hotel kindly upgraded us to a superb suite with a tremendous bathroom. The facilities at the hotel are all high tech and once you know how to turn on the lights and open the curtains then it is most impressive.
Visually the external impression of the hotel is not great but in a City which suffered such recent tragedy this cannot be considered important and the friendliness of the staff (with the exception of one rather grumpy waitress at breakfast) and the quality of the rooms made up for this and more. Indeed, we ate in the hotel's very popular bistro one evening and the food was of a very high standard.

Room Tip: Try ot get a park view if possible.

The George is one of those rare places where it feels like you belong the moment you walk in the door, the concierge is friendly and attentive. The guests are treated like friends of the family and you quickly feel like it is your home away from home. I have traveled a lot for business and you often feel hotels are sterile and invasive but the George is personal, professional and private. The cuisine is excellent, I have had many meetings at the hotel before staying there and it is always fresh, interesting and full of gluten free and grain free options. The wine list is good too with a great range of top New Zealand wines. I couldn't recommend a 5 star experience more and then you get your little George teddy to take home and that is lovely my friends son loves him to pieces.
All in all a slice of heaven in the South Island. I can't wait to go back again soon!

This hotel is located across from Hadley Park and the Avon River. It has beautiful views with floor to ceiling windows, sitting areas and nice large bathrooms. It is within walking distance of the downtown area that is being rebuilt and renewed after the devastating earthquake in 2011.

Location: great location, it’s right next to the Hagley Park so we had an extremely nice stroll in late afternoon. It’s 15 minutes walk to center but since there isn’t much to see in the center you might as well just enjoy being close to the park.

Room: it’s a bit small but very clean and tidy with good décor. The balcony overlooks a private garden and is petite and lovely.

Service: was excellent. Every staff was very nice and attentive. We’re on our honeymoon trip and we got upgraded to a honeymoon suite and 2 free glasses of sparkling wine – which was awesome. We are checking at maps and the staff came to us proactively and explained everything.

Value: we paid a total NZD 370 for an executive room and 2 breakfasts, which translated to ~EUR240 and I think it’s a bit expensive. I’m surprised breakfast is not included and it’s a bit over-priced for me, comparing with what I paid in Europe. On top of that, I can never understand why every hotel in New Zealand charges so much on Wifi – when I paid $19 for Vodafone prepaid and got 500MB, 50 minutes and 5000 text messages free!

Bottom line: still strongly recommend if you're staying in Christchurch.

Room Tip: I stayed in Executive Room

Dear NilesHo,

Thank you for taking the time to post your feedback. I am delighted that you enjoyed our location, service, the upgrade to a suite and the complimentary sparkling wine.

I do understand where you are coming from with regards the internet charges. I have had the same conversation with our ISP on numerous occasions. Their answer is always that the business product we have is vastly superior to a domestic on and needs to be in order to cope with the large numbers of simultaneous users we have. On top of that there is a large amount of equipment required and cable to run to provide both wired and wireless coverage to every part of the hotel. On top of the considerable investment in the original setup, the hotel spends $30,000 every year to monitor and maintain the network and pay for our data package. We provide every guest with a free data allowance which is enough for basic email and web surfing. We also offer free internet access from our lobby computers. We only start charging when guests wish to use an above average amount of data.

The good news is that our costs are coming down and as they do we are able to pass this on to our guests.

Thank you again for taking the time to post your feedback.

Kind regards,

Bruce Garrett
