Owner description: Set in 80 hectares within 15 minutes’ drive of Christchurch Airport, Orana Wildlife Park is New Zealand’s only open range zoo. We get you up close and personal with the animals. Imagine hand feeding a majestic giraffe; seeing New Zealand's only gorillas; eye balling the magnificent white rhino; meeting New Zealand’s national icon, the kiwi, or travelling through the Lion Reserve! Over 400 animals representing more than 70 species are displayed at the Park. Regular animal feed presentations occur daily and are accompanied by a presentation from a wildlife guide. Visitors can enjoy the antics of tigers, cheetah, Tasmanian devils, monkeys, meerkats and more. Two large walk-through aviaries enable you to see some of New Zealand’s unique native birds and Orana is home to a wide range of native reptiles. Visitors can pet domestic animals in the Farmyard. Orana is internationally renowned for its involvement in zoo-based breeding programmes for endangered exotic and native species. When you visit, you are supporting our conservation work. It’s a full day of fun for everyone at Orana Wildlife Park!

Love Orana Park. One of the best animal parks I have been to. Usually go round on the tractor ride then a walk round based on animal feeding times. Great value for money.

We visited Orana Wildlife Park on a rainy day so the park was very quiet, this was great for us! We paid for the Lemur encounter and it was worth every cent! The staff were unbelievably friendly, they chatted happily and were very informative. We didn't feel rushed at all and had such a lovely experience. The lemurs are adorable!!
The park is not huge in comparison to many similar places but it has a variety of animals that are well maintained and look very well cared for. The staff we spoke with were very enthusiastic and clearly passionate about the animals, a special mention to the volunteers they were so very helpful and friendly...not to mention patient as we watched them with a small school group visiting at the same time....places like this couldn't operate without volunteers and we are grateful for your time!!
Despite the rainy weather we had a lovely time and it was a highlight of our visit to Christchurch.

There is a café there with a variety of food at reasonable prices, there are toilet facilities that were very clean. For anyone with mobility issues (or just tired after a long day!) there's a little shuttle you can hop on & off around the park.

Awesome for the kids to see the animals. The animals had clean well maintained enclosures. The bonus for the kids was being able to pat the giraffe. Shame they are too little so we couldn't get to go and feed the lions. The park really needs a tidy up looks a bit run down. Some of the staff were rather unfriendly and one lady wasn't keen at all to answer questions.

To get the most out of your day make sure you organize your day out around the animal feedings. We feed the spider monkeys and giraffes and wished we had got to feed some more. There's a lot of animals to see and you can see that all the animals are well looked after and loved. The cafe had a few good lunch options and you've gotta make sure you get yourself a tip top ice block!
