The Lion encounter! Feed The Tiger Encounter! WOW!! For $35 per person you can go into the lions enclosure in a cage and have these lovely big cats on top of the cage you are in while they get fed in front of you, with them standing on their hinds legs with their huge paws on the cage and on top of you being fed. You can smell them and hear them roar up close. Awesome.
Feed The Tiger, you and two keepers go into the tigers enclosure and you get to fed him with tongs and meat while you are mere millimetres away from him, as he is on his hind legs with his massive paws on the wire, and you can hear him roar, and feel it in the pit of your tummy,it is such an awesome and breath taking experience, that you will never forget.
You can follow the keepers around and watch the animals being fed and can hand feed the giraffes and trout and you can also have a Ring-tailed Lemur encounter. It is a place that you stay at for the entire day and just follow the keepers around to see all the animals being fed and listen to the extremely knowledgeable keepers tell you about their charges.

We are locals and buy a yearly membership card every year so we can visit the park as often as we like in a 12 month period. It’s a great place and we love to see the animals with loads of room and freedom to move around. I won’t go to zoos where animals are kept locked up in tiny cages, it’s so inhumane. Every time we visit we see something different, whether it’s a new addition to Oscar and Peggy’s Siamang Gibbon family, feeding taking place in the lion’s den, watching the cheetah chase or seeing the tiger have a swim, it’s always fun going. The comments regarding the park being run down are a little unfair I think. Christchurch had huge wind damage which destroyed the kids play area and the park are working on getting a new facility up and running. The park shuttle has also recently been upgraded and is so much quieter and more comfortable than the old tractor driven shuttle. There are adequate BBQ facilities so you can bring your own food and keep costs down so I’m not sure exactly what people expect. I agree that certain staff could be a little friendlier, but overall our experience at Orana has always been positive and we will definitely keep going back. At the moment they are building a new enclosure to house the latest addition, Tasmanian Devils, and we can’t wait to see them!

Went last week on a nice winters day. Park was very run down, and some of the enclosures were not in great shape which isn't great to see. A large number of the animals do not appear very happy at all, and in general were all mostly out of sight. The park in general is relatively run down and certainly needs some work to be more attractive. The Cheetah cubs were awesome, and probably one of the few highlights from the visit.

Awesome to see the animals but the staff weren't so friendly. I took my two young children along and my 6 year old son asked sensible questions to a staff member who was feeding the Meerkats. She was unfriendly and gave a two word reply before walking off. Staff are half of what makes places like this. Cafe ladies weren't much better. The ladies feeding the lions etc weren't welcoming either. The guy driving the wee carts around was great, how all the staff should of been. The park is in real need on TLC that's for sure. Sad to see it so run down. Hopefully the Park can get up and running like it used to be, a wonderful place to see the animals.
