this is not a zoo its a wild life park, you may actually have to open your eyes to spot the animals, but it is well worth the look. Staff are friendly, animals look happy and love a good feed when you are going past athough its just that they are pigs as they look well cared for. Well worth a visit.

“Willowbank”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

Took my own children in the 70s when Willowbank first opened.We loved it.
Now 40 years later I have taken a whole team of primary school children to Willowbank and had trouble getting them to go back to school at the end of the day.They loved the baby Lemurs and had fun hand feeding (and touching ) the eels in the stream.Great place to have a picnic or you can buy food there.( Food for the animals as well )
I can't recommend this place enough- it is fabulous,

Best Kiwi encounter in New Zealand. Whilst not being the biggest Zoo around Willowbank is very well maintained and the animals well cared for.

“A hide-away”

What a find! After reading about Willowbank many times we decided to go and visit for ourselves. Lovely setting and good cafe but we did think the admission fee was a bit expensive.

“Fun for young and old”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

This popular Christchurch attraction appeals to three distinct markets:
For parents & grandparents with small children, the abundance of waterfowl, sheep, llama, goats & eels, plus the hilarious tribe of noisy Gibbons, will keep the wee ones amused for several hours;
Overseas visitors will enjoy interacting with the cheeky kea (intelligent alpine parrots) in the walk-through aviary and hunting for the elusive kiwi in the nocturnal house.
Any adult with an interest in conservation will be impressed by the efforts Willowbank has made to protect the gene pool of early farm animals such as sheep, goats & pigs as well as the kiwi breeding project.
