“Friendly place”

New Zealand hotels are expensive so I stayed at this backpackers place.

It has a lot of nice room options over several houses/low buildings. I had a very nice single.

There are full kitchen facilities - in fact two kitchens.

Very clean. Bathrooms are shared and well-kept.

You can rent a bed or a room.

It's walkable to town and there are plenty of eateries and pubs around.

Nice place.

Room Tip: I preferred a single or double room. I don't like to share with strangers.

We stayed in a triple room one night as we were traveling with a friend and then moved to the Foley Flat, their "best room", which is a double with an ensuite bath. The rooms were both spacious, but unfortunately in both instances the walls were paper thin and therefore it was entirely impossible to sleep. We complained to the management and they said they didn't have a "sign policy" to post quiet hours in the kitchen where the noise was coming from. It was a great disappointment.

Otherwise, the kitchen, laundry, and bath facilities are clean and well equipped. They were also very helpful in directing you to great lunch spots, and day trips in the area.

For a warm welcome and well designed accommodation set in tranquil gardens, Foley Towers offers a central spot to relax in a convivial environment.
The atmosphere created by the friendly owners and staff ensures that everyone gets along and there's a fun vibe which is tempered by respect for those getting up for early flights and buses.
Home from home, well organised but relaxed and with an eye for aesthetics often lacking in backpackers, also a stones throw from the very excellent Beat Street Cafe for groovy grub and gorgeous coffee.

Room Tip: Courtyard rooms are well designed and cosy, with sliding doors so that noise is kept to a minimum.

Nice stay, friendly staff. Good room ensuite with nice shower, no towels provided though, but reasonably priced (68 NZD). Kitchen big, clean and fully equipped. Quiet rooms are situated around the garden full of flowers, nice place to sit and eat. We had a very good stay.

We stayed in several hostels on a two week road trip, but this was the first (and only) one I had to unpack the towels for, and we did have a twin en suite which seems to come with towels every where else. I wasn't keen on the wash hand basin being in the room with the beds, but there was certainly no room for it in the *bathroom*.

Quiet, clean, tidy, and with a well equipped kitchen (although by mid~afternoon it's cleanliness and tidiness had deteriorated quite a bit), and a nice homely lounge area. Only just enough off~street car~parking to accommodate us, but with workman on the site occupying several spaces, that's obviously not an ongoing problem and there was plenty of on~street parking.

Very secure complex, and I thought the "Help Yourself" bins outside; divided into used clothing etc., was a very good idea within a city that has an international airport and is likely the end destination of many an overseas traveller. I did score a cap to protect my nose which had been getting sunburned (I'd forgotten to pack mine!)

We pre-booked due to the lack of hostels available since the earthquake. From the beginning the service was really friendly and quick, replies arived within the same day. On arrival the reception very friendly, although we didn't have towels we were provided with some, the room was clean with enough room to move around. Kitchen facilities were good and the whole atmosphere was very warm and friendly. All enquiries were efficiently dealt with. Wholeheartedly recommend! (and we are oldies!)

It was a nice place to stay, but right off the bat, i felt like this wasn't a usual backpackers. The receptionist was interesting, but cool, down to earth, accommodating and nice. We had four in our group and only two got to stay together in one room. The room only had 3 beds. So the other friend and I were split up. Its a wonder why the room only has 3 beds. One would think a room would be fitting for 2, 4, 6, etc. You know, an even amount of beds.

Anyway, two rooms faced each other and in between you have the toilet and shower. They are separate as well. The floor is heated in both the shower and toilet. Shower was great. Hot water, good pressure, and clean! The room was nice and linen provided. Quiet all around.

There is Wi-Fi, but i'm not too sure if it is free. There are two computers there to use, but you need a $2 coin to first start it and you get 20 mins. If you need more time, its $1 for 10 or $2 for 20. Thats pretty much the standard rate for most places anyway. Unless you go to a public library or something.

The location for this place might have once been great, but since the earthquake, its quite hard to get back to this place unless you know your way around Christchurch. Just trying to drive there period was a nightmare. Streets are closed, turned into one way only and seem like you just go around in circles. Maybe if you stayed on the main strip, you won't have much of a problem going out and returning back to the accommodation.

The place also had a "Free" wall. I guess people have forgotten, or left things behind so it gets placed in the Free section. You got clothes, pots, pans, some electronics, books, etc. I thought that was pretty cool. :)

Overall, if you are traveling by yourself, this would be a good place to stay. It's one of a kind. :) It was a nice place, but a bit expensive for the basics. It is a BBH, so if you have membership, itʻll be about $3 cheaper. I think we paid $28 for the night (none of us had a BBH membership) with a $10 key deposit which we got back once we checked out.
