It was only an emergency choice, as our all-time favourite hostel at Chester street was fully booked. We got a clean, spacious, well maintained double room for a quite reasonable price. It has a heater and even an attached shower cabin.

The kitchen was well equipped and clean, with all the necessary tools, etc. The hostel staff was really-really friendly and helpful with everything we needed. Late check-in was not a problem at all, they were waiting for us.

The drawback was not the hostel itself, but the the bunch of german (an other) teenagers partying outside. It was impossible to sleep a minute. As we are in our early 30s, we don't have problems with partying unless it disturbs others. Believe me, that party was terribly loud and crazy. :)

Service was good as instruction was clear for late check-in. However upon arrival to our room the bed was not made. It is ok as the keepers there made up by making the bed for us though they were off duty. They were friendly and apologetic. We stayed in a double room. Room was basic. With heater. No towel. We only stayed a night as a stopover for our long flight and we find it ok. The price was cheap too. The hostel is also quiet hence we had a great sleep after our long flight

Great location and within walking distance to the red zone and restart mall.
We arrived early and were able to check in to our room before 2pm which was great. We had a twin room in the garden and it was clean and practical. Was good to have an ensuite and the room was clean. The beds were comfortable.

We didn't cook but did have some food that we stored in the fridge and have to say the kitchen was pretty awful. People just left dirty stuff everywhere and the fridges were pretty disgusting. We could actually not find some of our stuff. I don't think I would have even cooked there as it was really disgusting.

The guy on reception was helpful and there was on site parking but it got full pretty quickly.
The one down side to staying in one of the garden type rooms is that people sit out in the garden smoking, drinking and talking late into the night.

For the price we payed and the location it was pretty good and I would stay there again. But just be aware that there are a few long termers and that there hygiene skills aren't the best. They have a number of boxes with clothes etc that people have dumped and it might be an idea to actually give them to a charity rather than have them overflowing in the garden area.

We just needed a place to stopover before flying home, and weren't too fussy. Glad we chose the shared rooms - much better than dorms with your own bed and only two or three others to share with. But despite the quiet room, a rowdy drunken party outside in the garden kept us all awake despite our pleas for them to quieten down. Have some hostel etiquette people!! No free perks, but a fairly clean kitchen and at least we could leave our bags there after checking out so we could use the day to explore.

Room Tip: Shared rooms are adequate and a little bit quieter.

We stay in a twin ensuite room which was comfortable and we did have a good sleep after taking long flight. Late arrival with no problem at all as Natalie explain through email for the instruction while I make booking. Due to flight delayed we reach Foley at 10 something and the taxi fare surprisingly not higher than shuttle! Kitchen is clean too.

We stayed in on 27, 28 & 29 July 2012 in Foley Towers in Christchurch.

From the moment we booked we were very impressed with Sarah's friendliness & efficiency. We later rang to doubly confirm our booking ...she remembered me & our booking, then gave some great tips for our trip to Chch. She also confirmed we could have towels in our ensuite motel room, which was great as we were flying with 7kg of hand luggage only (Thanks again for the towels). When we were staying we tried some of her delicious homemade choc & pineapple muffins ...unforgettable THANKS!

Our motel-style ensuite room was VERY reasonably priced... so we weren't expecting much HOWEVER we were more than impressed with our room ...most especially for the price. It was basic but big enough for us for the weekend, small ensuite with basin in the bedroom which was actually quite handy for a couple getting ready, was impressibly warm in cold winter nights, quiet at the end of the garden & more than adequate for our needs.

Great security, quiet in our garden motel room, warm in winter nights, very central, small carpark with off street parking for our hire car, good kitchen facilities

We ate in Speights Ale House & Pomeroys both of which were a short walk away.

Next time we are in Christchurch we will definitely stay in Foley Towers again!

New Zealand hotels are expensive so I stayed at this backpackers place.

It has a lot of nice room options over several houses/low buildings. I had a very nice single.

There are full kitchen facilities - in fact two kitchens.

Very clean. Bathrooms are shared and well-kept.

You can rent a bed or a room.

It's walkable to town and there are plenty of eateries and pubs around.

Nice place.

Room Tip: I preferred a single or double room. I don't like to share with strangers.
