“Disappointing wedding night accomodation”
Reviewed 16 April 2014

Although my wedding was in December, I have been left feeling upset about my experience at Peppers Clearwater Resort.
The setting is beautiful, and the rooms very well layed out and spacious, but there were many things that really left us feeling that it wasnt worth the price we paid to have somewhere special to get ready for my wedding and stay the night afterwards.
The Lakeside Villa that I had booked had an extremely shabby deck, two of my wedding party ended up with splinters from it, and there was a big plastic owl (which I am assuming was to scare away ducks) had fallen from the roof and lying on the deck.
None of the televisions had decent reception-which isn't a biggie but is unprofessional none the less.
The bath was dirty, with dark smudges up the side, and one of the electronic blinds would not properly close.
The bed was actually two singles that had been pushed together, which made it a very uncomfortable nights sleep.
The worst thing was being woken up at 7am the next morning to tradesmen across the lake (who looked as though they were building more suites) playing loud music.
We were grateful that the restaurant remained open to accommodate our 14 guests for buffet breakfast the next morning, but don't expect any extra effort on behalf of the staff to acknowledge a special wedding or honeymoon occasion.
I feel that I needed to get this experience off my chest as I had high hopes, thinking it would be the perfect romantic retreat after a lovely day, but it really fell short of those expectations.

We recently had the opportunity yo spend one night in Christchurch and needed to stay close to the airport. Peppers offered us everything we needed. We stayed in one of the Lake side units. It was spacious and nicely decorated with relaxing views. We had an early breakfast which was delicious with a wide range of choices. We will definately be back

Had a nice stay here before catching our flight from Christchurch to Singapore. A good looking golf course and well maintained grounds. We had a lake view room, a little worn around the edges but quite comfortable. We had a little jetty accessible from our room from where we could feed the ducks and allocated car parking was right outside.
We ate in the bar, quite a limited menu but very acceptable, had a couple of glasses of good wine and enjoyed a decent nights sleep. Very convenient for the airport.

I travel on business to Christ Church a few times a year and Peppers Clearwater is the only place I will stay. Since my flight arrives early in the morning, the staff has always taken care of me inspite of my arrival time.
The view from the deck and bedroom windows overlooking the golf course make winding down from a days work very easy.

Its the closest thing to home I have found.

Thanks,
David Watson

After travelling throughout Fiordland, Otago, Southland and Canterbury for the past couple of weeks, having the most amazing autumn holiday, we chose Clearwater for the last two nights before returning home. We were totally blown away by the location, the golf course and the wonderful staff in the pro-shop - couldn't be better! Ingrid, Matt and James - thankyou.
But our room was appalling - shabby upholstery, water-stained surfaces on EVERY piece of furniture, in the lounge, dining area and bedroom. The bathroom was equipped for a wheelchair bound guest, with crumpled shower curtains and handrails beside the toilet and on the shower wall. Absolutely necessary we know, but not for us. It felt as if we were in a rest home, or similar institutionalised facility. Having booked a 'Lakeview Suite' we found we were staring at a hedge on one side, and a block wall on the other. The suites above us may have had a lake view, but we certainly did not. A skinny hanging space was largely filled with two bathrobes (nice) which had to remain there, even if damp, as there are no hooks in the bathroom. On checking out, my husband was stunned to be told there was a 2% surcharge for payment by credit card! How else do people pay?? We had tipped a couple of staff members who provided good service, and Peppers has the audacity to add 2% to the tips which were included in our bill? Thankfully we tipped other staff with cash. We would certainly return to Clearwater to play golf, but stay at Peppers again? Never! Recommend it to friends who travel as much as we do? Never.

Room Tip: Avoid 1201 and all suites along the lower level of that group of suites.

Over the last few years I have visited on a number of occasions, it is in my opinion
The only hotel that has a true 5 star feel to it .

Whilst it is a hike from the CBD , the surroundings , comfort , excellent rooms more than make up
for this .

The terrace rooms with their spacious living room and deck protruding onto the lake provide an atmosphere that none can replicate in the area.

Staff have always been helpful and courteous.

The food has been consistent and to a medium to high standard.

The fact that most rooms seem to be suites / small apartments means that as well as
providing a very spacious environment with the freedom to cook etc there is ample
room for business meetings

Set on a PGA golf course , and 5-10 mins from the airport this hotel is definitely a prime choice
when compared to anything else Christchurch has to offer.

The beautiful looking free standing bath holds a huge amount of water - shame it drained out all over the bathroom floor rather than the drain, dripping through into the room below. Due to our room's distance from the reception area, it took around 15mins for anyone to arrive - and that was just to have a look. In the meantime we'd managed to soak up most of the water using all available towels and the drain in the shower area. Some time later our smoke alarm started going intermittently - eventually a tradesman arrived to remove said alarm. The final straw was the power cut the following morning. The staff were charming, but it would seem there are major faults with the building.

Kia ora Mr Brooker,

Thank you for your feedback. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience caused by the broken drain in your room and the resulting water leaking into the Smoke Alarm System causing this to go off. Unfortunately this water also caused the power to trip the following morning. We are pleased to advise that we had the situation rectified immediately after your departure the following morning.

Once again thank you for your feedback and we are sorry we will not have to opportunity to welcome you back to Peppers Clearwater Resort.

Kind Regards
