We stayed for the first two nights of our trip at Menteith House and what a wonderful start to our New Zealand trip it was! Planted in the middle of a picturesque country setting with animated lamas to boot, Menteith House was such a nice stay we felt quite wistful leaving! Faye and Steven were so warm, welcoming and friendly and made it their priority to make us feel comfortable in their home. The breakfasts provided were nutritious and home cooked and they took extra time to provide us with a variety of fresh juice options to please our taste buds. Our bedroom was very presentable and was equipped with a lovely ensuite bathroom, including a very good shower. Faye and Steven managed to be very professional, while also providing a personal touch that was special and memorable. We would recommend Menteith Country House without hesitation and hope to go back there again one day ourselves!

We stayed at Menteith for our first two nights in New Zealand and it was the perfect way to start our trip. Fay and Stephen were welcoming and friendly and their home was an ideal place to have a little peace and quiet after our 31 hour flight.

Our room was spacious, spotlessly clean and extremely comfortable with good facilities and a lovely hot shower. The breakfasts we had were both varied and delicious and we especially enjoyed the preserved fruit and honey that they produced themselves.

Both Fay and Stephen gave us great advice on where to buy low cost Merino clothing from and some places to visit on our trip around south island - the stop off in Hanmer Springs for a dip on our way up to Kaikoura was most refreshing!

All in all Menteith was a lovely, relaxing place to stay and Fay and Stephen were the perfect hosts. We would both highly recommend staying here.

With our daughter living in Lincoln and no spare beds in their house, we were looking for somewhere to sleep - and we discovered Menteiths. Whilst we were really only looking for a bed, somewhere to put our heads down...what we found was a luxurious, rejuventating escape. Fay & Stephen were warm friendly hosts, the house was beautiful and warm ( a far cry from a cold University house). The beds were divine, we slept late every morning. The room was perfect, everything you needed was there, and it was so beautifully laid out. I would certainly recommend this property.

Our first trip to glorious New Zealand and the South Island. So many memories of a wonderful holiday, including the lovely time spent with Fay and Stephen Graham at Menteith Country House just outside of Christchurch. Two knowledgeable, helpful and entertaining hosts, who made us feel so welcome and our Bed and Breakfast stay ultra- comfortable in one of their immaculate guest suites. The house and gardens are delightful (as are the alpacas they keep in the garden). Fay (who has worked in the travel industry) gave us all sorts of great advice and hints for our itinerary, which proved invaluable, and we felt very lucky to have chosen what must be one of the best, if not the best, home stays in New Zealand. We can't recommend a stay here highly enough - we will certainly be back to renew our acquaintance with this lovely couple (and p.s. to enjoy Stephen's breakfasts - simply scrumptious!). The hosts could not have made us more welcome in their beautiful home. The heated pool in the centre of the house was quite stunning - as was the beautiful accommodation. Our hosts were always available to spend time with us and after three nights with them we felt they had become friends.

After nearly two weeks traveling around the north and south island of beautiful New Zealand, we spent our final two evenings at the Menteith Country House. It ended up being one of the highlights of our trip due to the comfortable accommodations and warm hospitality.
Upon entering the bed and breakfast, we were greeted with warm smiles and friendly hosts. Our room was cozy and immaculate overlooking the backyard garden. We especially enjoyed the complimentary beverages available in the room (tea, coffee, soft drinks) and candies. Each evening, Fay and Stephen offered evening nibbles with savory cheese and crackers, fresh baked sweets, beverages, such as tea, wine or a beer and wonderful chats. Fay and Stephen are such fantastic hosts and make everyone feel comfortable in their home. During our stay, they offered us nearby dinner recommendations and kindly made reservations for us. Furthermore, they gave us suggestions of activities in the area. Breakfasts were prepared when we woke up and everything was delicious. They offered several different juice varieties, pressed coffee, tea, yogurt, granola and fresh fruit. There was also toast and a hot breakfast of eggs and ham or french toast. Everything was exquisite.

I cannot say enough positive things about the Menteith Country House or about Fay and Stephen. They are both fantastic, generous hosts who made our stay memorable and comfortable. We hope we can return again in the near future and highly recommend this bed and breakfast.

Our first impression of Christchurch was cold and rain but the welcome and stay at Menteith couldn't have been warmer and sunnier. Fay and Stephen are perfect hosts and staying with them was a wonderful experience. The location is great as it is ideal for the airport for driving in to the city and for heading south. Their home is spacious and beautifully planned with the three guest rooms situated round the large indoor pool and jacuzzi. Each room is individually furnished (we stayed in two different ones as we returned before we left south island) and so tastefully appointed. The beds are the most comfortable we have slept in. The friendship we kindled in such a short time was amazing and we felt we had left behind a wee part of ourselves when we flew to Auckland.
