“lovely welcome after our journey”
Reviewed 19 February 2011

We spent two nights at each end of our tour round south Island. Fay and Stephen were wonderful hosts, sharing their knowledge of the area with us and helping us to plan trips. Our room was very comfortable and very peaceful. The breakfasts were delicious, as were the homemade cakes and biscuits. We particularly enjoyed out glasses of wine at 6pm! We would recommend this b&b to anyone.

Menteith Country House is an absolute treasure. Fay and Stephen are absolutely delightful hosts - nothing was too much trouble whether it be cooking me a meal at night or offering to wash laundry. From the moment I arrived I was warmly welcomed and provided with a drink and biscuits. The room was exceptionally clean, the bed and pillows were delightful and bathroom spacious with toiletries and soft towels provided. I was fortunate to have the room at the end with a wonderful view overlooking the garden and benefited from the sun streaming in in the afternoon. I looked forward to breakfast every morning with Stephen cooking something different each day. Their son's honey (Manuka and Clover) is a real treat.
I would recommend having a car if staying here as the public transport to Christchurch and surrounds is infrequent. As the purpose of my trip was business I cannot comment on tourist attractions nearby.

A beautiful home set in lovely surroundings on the outskirts of Christchurch. Fay and Stephen could not have been more welcoming! As we were the only guests, Fay moved us into a larger room which was very comfortable and extremely well appointed, with everything you could wish for.
Fay and Stephen were unstinting with their time, help and superb advice on where to visit and where to eat and shop.
We had an absolutely fantastic time and will make this our first stop on our return trip to New Zealand.

This was a splendid house in the country, though only a short drive from both airport and city centre, set in lovely grounds and extremely peaceful. With only a handful of guest bedrooms, we got real individual attention from our hosts, Fay and Stephen Graham, who have many years' experience in the hotel business, who made us feel very welcome in their home, and who cooked us a splendid and varied breakfast every morning. The rooms are lovely, spotlessly clean, very comfortable bed, powerful shower and all mod-cons, and there's an indoor pool in case you want to work up an appetite before breakfast. Would definitely return!

We flew into Christchurch and Menteith County House was only a short drive from the airport. Fay and Steven could not have been more welcoming. Fay had already prepared a South Island Itinerary for me as I mentioned in my emails to her that we were struggling to decide what and where to visit.

The room was quite perfect, ensuite had a wonderful shower and there were lots of other small touches which showed their attention to detail and their desire to make our stay as good as possible. The bed was especially comfortable and I had a great night sleep. We had been up since 5.30 am so a good nights sleep was vey welcome

We shared breakfast with Fay and Steven on both mornings and also sat with them in their living room in the evening. Wifi internet access is available and we were able to book our accomodation for the next part of our journey. There is also an indoor pool and spa, which we did not use, but whcih looked extremely inviting

We dined in the evening at a pub close by. I forget the name but Fay provides a list of recommended restaurants in the immediate area and is happy to phone up and book a table.

It was a great start to our holiday in new Zealand and we would have no hesitation in recommending this B&B to one and all

We stayed for the first two nights of our trip at Menteith House and what a wonderful start to our New Zealand trip it was! Planted in the middle of a picturesque country setting with animated lamas to boot, Menteith House was such a nice stay we felt quite wistful leaving! Faye and Steven were so warm, welcoming and friendly and made it their priority to make us feel comfortable in their home. The breakfasts provided were nutritious and home cooked and they took extra time to provide us with a variety of fresh juice options to please our taste buds. Our bedroom was very presentable and was equipped with a lovely ensuite bathroom, including a very good shower. Faye and Steven managed to be very professional, while also providing a personal touch that was special and memorable. We would recommend Menteith Country House without hesitation and hope to go back there again one day ourselves!
