“Improvised shopping”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Brightly-painted to disguise their shoddiness, Christchurch's re-start mall, established in shipping containers, has become a must-do visitor experience. It was established following the earthquakes that wrecked havoc on the city in 2010 and 2011.Shops and coffee cafes along with fast food are brilliantly set up in their temporary steel boxes.
A variety of stores, including outdoor clothing, footwear and classy souvenir outlets are nearby Ballantynes, the city's best-known upmarket department store. Another feature is the Quake City earthquake exhibition. From early next year heritage trams will run through the complex.
Container shops are occasionally relocated to make space for new permanent developments.

“Have to go!!!”
Reviewed 17 June 2014 via mobile

This is great! Little quirky reflection of CHCH's culture and dynamics coming through as the city is rebuilt. The little shopping area is a great time filler if you're visiting... It's also a great opportunity to check out the 'how the city is being reconstructed" through the pop up community info containers..... Shopping, food, art.... Education - great stuff!!

“Interesting Mall, great coffee shops & boutique shopping”
Reviewed 17 May 2014

We wandered down to check out the re-start mall as we had heard so much about it. Its worth a look and we enjoyed a nice breakfast there. There were street markets set up on the Saturday with some nice souvenirs, the shops were boutique style & quite expensive.
