My husband and I stayed at the Novotel Christchurch for a total of 3 night on our 2 week holiday in New Zealand. The motel was a little hard to find on the first night, but lucky we had our navigation system which took us straight there. The motel isnt signed very well and my husband had to point it out to me. The staff are all very friendly, which was comforting when staying in a different country. They supplied free internet which was helpful when you are on a budget and don't want to pay for internet cafes. The motel has valet parking which costs $25 a night, which we thought was a bit expensive but there is no real other alternative.

The rooms we very clean and comfortable. The room we had on the 2nd and 3rd night had an air con that constantly sounded like a boiling kettle and with no open windows it was a little annoying. The bathroom was a poorly designed, with the toilet being situated in a corner with little room to move. The motel was located in the middle of the city, close to shops and restaurants.

Great location in the centre of Christchurch, but the entrance is a bit confusing, since it is a rebuild of an older hotel and the previous name still is more visible than the new "Novotel" name. I thought our taxi was at the wrong location at first, but he knew better than I did, thankfully! Would not like to have stayed next door. We stayed in a new room which was what one expect from a "new" style room. Comfortable and all the expected conveniences, but the architect must have had a fit of the vapours when she/he opted for the washbasin in the bedroom itself and no hand basin in the bathroom. Makes things a bit crowded and odd. Unusually for a NZ hotel, there was nothing provided other than a tea/coffee maker, so don't think you can get your own breakfast. The room was quiet as it was on the 8th floor, so we were well away from the backpacker premises and bars next door. We got a great deal through Wotif, but I wouldn't like to pay full rack rates.

We (two adults and two children age 4 & 2) stayed here for one night in May. We booked adjoining rooms one twin and one double and were more than happy with our stay here. The rooms were fresh and clean with great views over Cathedral Square. People have commented about the bathrooms being part of the bedroom, but we didn't find this a problem at all. The toilet and shower/bath are in a separate room but the handbasin is behind a shelf which can be partitioned from the room by a bi fold mirror. It really wasn't a problem.

The staff were helpful and efficient. The only parking available is valet parking for $25 but the valet attendants were happy to retrieve the car as many times as you want for no extra charge. The location is excellent - right on Cathedral Square.

We were very impressed with the Novotel and would definitely stay here again.

As an aside, we also visited the Antarctic Centre which well exceeded my expectations. Well worth a visit.

We stayed in a room in the re-furbished section of the hotel, our room was light and plenty of space but we did get alot of road/street noise from Cathedral Square which was a shame, but the staff were great, very helpful, the buffet breakfast was well cooked, very fresh and the chief cooked us each an omlette which was very good. Parking is off site and valet which suited our purposes and the staff helped us with our luggage and taxis when we needed them, nothing seemed to be a problem. We went to see the Crusaders play at AMI stadium and the hotel was a short taxi ride, again no problems.

We loved it here & Novotel was a great start to our holiday. We chose it mainly because it was newly opened this year and the decor appealed to us.
Our room was light and inviting; modern bathoom; comfortable beds.
The staff were all great and nothing was a problem. We appreciated their assistance arranging transport to the train station for the Tranzalpine trip (there is a complimentary shuttle provided by the train company - reliable & easy).
Hotel is situated right in the heart of the city so in one afternoon we were able to walk to the river, the art museum, shops etc.
I guess the only very minor thing I could add, prompted by re-reading previous reviews, was yes the coffee at breakfast could do with some attention(!) however the food was nice, lots of fresh fruit and all the usual one would expect from a Novotel in NZ.
We'd definitely stay again.

Arrived here straight after 2 days travelling from Scotland and was not disappointed. Great location, courteous staff, lovely big room with good facilities. View nothing special. Loved having access to 3 new apple mac computers in reception area. Breakfast was fantastic. Overall very happy with our stay here.

We stayed in March 2010 for 2 nights to celebrate my birthday and we were happy with the whole experiences.
This hotel had been refurbished to a modern standard and I like the decor in the hotel lobby. We saw the promotion ad of this newly opened hotel via Air New Zealand inflight magazine KIA Ora in Jan so I made some inquiries at first. I was looking thru the Accorhotels.com online and Wotif.com to compare prices but got a great deal of free buffet breakfast and complimentary drinks in the end ! Buffet breakfast was average it served only the basic NZ typed food. Our modern room was spacious with 2x double beds, clean & comfortable. We didn't like the shower without door as it wasn't practical...other reviewers felt the same. But best of all the location was perfect! Just walk 2 mins to the tram stops and hop on you can visit most of the city attractions.
