Great location, right in Cathedral Square. Reception looks smart and funky, and the first receptionist was friendly and efficient. Told instuctions to our room and off we went. Unfortunately, it was in the refurbished side of the hotel, which was not what we had requested. Room was decorated nicely but very small, so went back to reception (different receptionist on reception) and asked about changing rooms to the new side but promptly advised fully booked. There was no hint of an apology for not being able to accommodate our original request. As we had already paid, we had no option to take the room they gave us. Room was bably lit and did not lend to reading in bed. Overlooked the side of Cathedral Square and even though double glazed could hear a bit of noise. Other than the room, we found the restaurant to be very good for both meals and service. Location excellent, but parking expensive.

Dear Fismum,

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Novotel Christchurch Cathedral Square.

I am very sorry that your room did not meet your expectations and then when you highlighted this to our reception team that we were not able to assist you. This is certainly not the level of service we strive for and for this I do sincerely apologise.

Fismum, I am however delighted to read that you enjoyed the Square Restaurant and the overall ambience of the hotel.

If you do return to Christchurch, please make your reservation directly with myself so I can make sure you are very well looked after. Thank you once again for choosing to stay with us and for sharing your feedback.

Kind Regards,

Roberts Ejubs

We were upgraded to a penthouse room for free, as we were on our honeymoon, and really enjoy our first day in New Zealand.

Booked 4 rooms 2 nights via local agent and myself end up getting room with 0 view on 3rd floor #305 overlooking other rooms' windows with some debries from earthquake and some tapes outside window. The room is not rentable at any rate as you would need to close the curtain at all time. We checked with reception upon check in to make sure rooms had nice view and she confirmed that all rooms in new building got good views but room we got is totally opposite. This was not because we booked via agent as we had same problem at Novotel Rotorua when we booked lake view room via hotel website directly and got 1st floor room with lake view at remote distance with top view of gigantic green roof before that. Too tired to complain but these leaving very bad impression for us after experiences at both sites.

Generally room we had in Christchurch had good function, was clean and comfy. Good/chic decor in hotel lobby and common areas. Guy at door was friendly and helpful.

Breakfast is better than Novotel in rotorua but still nothing impressive. The breakfast room is under-staff to serve and it was hectic at breakfast as there are few staff running around to get stuffs for many customers. No one attended egg station and you have to grab someone to order. Staff look tired as not many of them to serve but service mind is ok.

No vegetable salad just cold meat. Fruit varieties was good.

Tips:

Book the cheapest room so you won't regret like us.

Pros:
Nice comfy bed
Location

Cons:
Room allocation should be improved. Hotel should be more considerate when allocating bad rooms to customers. Facilities were ok but business mindset was a big problem.

Thank you for firstly choosing to stay with us and for taking the time to share your experience, as it is only through guests such as yourself who take the time to share their views with us that we are able to continually monitor and enhance our level of service.

JennyTH, I am sorry to hear that you did not enjoy your room allocation. This is dissapointing for me and I am deeply sorry that when highlighted to us, this was not fixed.

JennyTH, I am however delighted to hear that you enjoyed the overall decor and contemporary design of our hotel as well as other aspects of our new property.

I do hope you are able to offer us a second opportunity to show you the high levels of service in which we pride ourselves in the very near future. Thank you once again for taking the time to share your experience with us.

Had a really great two night stay in this hotel. Stayed on the 7th floor with a view overlooking the Cathedral Square. Absolutely stunning. Room nice & clean. Bed very comfy. Liked the idea of the handbasin away from the toilet/shower, can get ready while bathroom in use. Staff very friendly & most helpful. Free internet in foyer a bonus. Great buffett breakfast, included in rate, which was very reasonable. Very central to all attractions & free bus stop just around corner. Very highly recommend, thankyou for a wonderful stay.

We stayed here early October after getting off our campervan trip of 2 weeks. Christchurch was still suffering from AFTERSHOCKS. We stayed on 11th Floor and there was one aftershock one morning, but all was good, nothing to worry about. The service of the staff definately made up for it. Great stay would go back.

Dear Thourdy,

Thank you for choosing to stay at the Novotel Christchurch and also for taking the time to share your experience with fellow travellers.

Thourdy, as you have highlighted Christchurch City and the Canterbury region are still experiencing some aftershocks however fortunately these are slowing down. Being a brand new property we are very fortunate to have experienced absolutely no structural damage at all and I can assure you that our hotel meets the most stringent council regulations as well as Accor's strict global building standards.

Thourdy, thank you once again for your kind feedback and I do hope I have the opportunity to welcome you back to a calm and relaxing Christchurch City in the very near future.

Excellent Hotel, can't rate it highly enough. Reason for the sleep quality was the aftershocks, I had a 5.0, 4.4, 4.2 qnd 4.6 over the 6 days. That aside nothing could stop me from staying here again.

A very comfortable 3-night stay in a modern hotel with a retro bar in the very centre of the city. You cannot go past this one! There were only two items that I think could be improved:
1. I did not receive a daily newspaper where my travelling work colleagues did; and
2. Rooms with twin beds do not give you the floor space to put anything, like a suit case. Ask for a king double. These look much more comfortable!

Dear Jafa_Smithers,

Thank you for recently choosing to stay at the Novotel Christchurch and for your kind feedback.

I am sorry that you did not receive your morning newspaper. We always keep additional newspapers at both our Square Restaurant on Level 1 and also at reception as on occasions newspapers are known to go missing from outside of guest rooms.

I am also very sorry that you did not receive a room with a King Bed.

Jafa_Smithers, thank you once again for choosing to stay with us and I do hope I have the opportunity to welcome you back to the Novotel Christchurch in the very near future.
