We had Madam Kwong's Restaurant recommended to us, and tried it out for the first time midweek. Surprisingly busy for a Tuesday night, there was still plenty of room, because it is a large restaurant. The service was great, and we were happy to take the advice given on what to try based on what we said we liked. Big portions meant we got to take some leftovers home to enjoy tomorrow. The duck was yummy, as was the chilli chicken. The big bowl of green beans was a perfect foil for the meat.
Easy parking once we found it tucked in behind the Caltex station on Blenheim Rd.
We will definitely be coming back to try something more from the extensive menu.

Great place for yum cha aficionados.Waitresses bring trolleys with dumplings, steamed meat and pastry delicacies.the price is reasonable and we got our food fast. The waitress was quite efficient with our meal order plus we got all the help with our meal order.our group has Sui Mai, fried squid, custard buns, red bean croissant, steamed pork buns, steamed pork belly, beef stomach, prawn dumpling, chicken stir fry noodles, veg stir fry noodles and few other goodies from trolley.
Decor is fab.they have seating on 2 levels and specialize in Cantonese and Sichuan cuisine.Make sure you book a table as they were pretty busy for lunch but the upside is food is served quickly.

We tried the restaurant on Saturday 6.30pm with no reservation. We were given a table for two. Staff were pleasant and friendly. We ordered the salted bbq pork, spicy schezuan style beef broth and mixed seafood tofu claypot. The quality of the food was acceptable for christchurch standards. Food is tasty and anyone who's not dined in an Asian country would be none the wiser. Only gripe would be that the waitress we had seemed to not know what some dishes tasted like. Which wasn't a problem as she offered to ask the chef for us. Just that the couple next to us seemed to have a similar problem. This points to a new workforce. Wouldn't hurt for the staff to have some sort of menu tasting to help the staff recommend dishes in future. Something For management to think about. Nevertheless there seemed to be a lady walking around helping diners with their orders. I assumed she was the owner or manager of some sorts. Spent 57 for 3 dishes with two heaped small bowls of rice. Will also come back to try their yum char.

Food was good and reasonable value for money, the staff were friendly and kept our our busy kids entertained when they were resless. One thing that can be improved upon is the time to bring out the meals. We would go back for a second visit.

With it's large size and wall-sized TV this restaurant is destined to become the darling of the Chinese community for weddings, engagements and other large gatherings needing a swanky space and mass catering. The restaurant is brand new and quite elegantly fitted-out but the service and the food do not match the surroundings. There is no space quite like Madam Kwong's in Christchurch but there are better places for a good Chinese meal.
