Stayed in room 216 (small studio in original manor building) for one night and it had what we needed. Rates come with breakfast cereals, bread, spreads and milk. It also has a small kitchenette.
The bathroom was very clean and shower pressure was very strong.

This building has about 24 steps to reach the top level so if you have problems walking up stairs, you may want to request a ground level room.

They also have free wifi, free laundry facilities and free car washing equipment we found handy as we were returning our rental car that day.

The owner is a lovely, helpful and cheerful man.

We stayed for two nights for a family celebration and were delighted with everything. The hosting was suberb, friendly, efficient and nothing was too much trouble. The 2 bedroomed apartment was beautifully appointed and spacious and served as an ideal 'hub' for our guests and ourselves. Loved the 'gourmet' toast bread, cereal and spreads that were provided.

Overall a totally enjoyable stay in a great location. Highly recommended.

We chose this motel for our last night in New Zealand, as we needed to be fairly close to the airport for an entirely-too-early departing flight.

Having stayed at accommodation on Papanui Road in the past, my main concern was road noise.

I expressed this concern in an e-mail to the motel and they offered to hold one of their back rooms for us, which is how we came to stay in room #210, a very quiet studio room.

The motel offers excellent off street parking...ours was right outside our door and couldn't have been more convenient.

Our room had suffered a wee bit of minor cosmetic earthquake damage, but it suited us pretty well. Although the manor is an old building, the interior is modern and fresh, yet still maintains some of the original features. This makes for a nice mix of old and new and gives the room a bit of character.

There was a large accessible bathroom with two sinks on opposite walls, a nice stereo and TV set-up, sufficient space, an outdoor patio area, and a well equipped kitchenette.

The drawbacks for us were the smallish bed, the pitiful bedside lamps (not enough light to read) and the positioning of the bathroom door, which when open, hit the bed, effectively blocking the exit for the person on the right side of the bed. We had to sleep with the bathroom door closed to prevent spouse from slamming into the bathroom door if he had to get up in the middle of the night. We also had to close the bathroom door to watch TV, as it blocked the view from the right side of the bed. It seems a pocket door or sliding door would work better.

From a location standpoint, Merivale Manor worked well for us...about a 30 minute walk to the CBD and a short walk to our favorite Indian restaurant. And best of all, we heard birdsong, not traffic! The fast, free Internet was a nice perk too.

All in all, good accommodation. We'd not hesitate to stay here again (in a quiet room),

We arrived late in from the airport. The arrangments for late check in worked fine. We have stayed there before....and all was good as usual.

Room Tip: I would always ask for a room in the main house. You need to purchase real coffee and ask for the mi...

Was situated in the room closest to the road which proved to be very noisy, upon arrival there was no power in our allocated room but this was solved within a few minutes. Overall a good stay and happy with the service provided. Maybe the units closest to the road should be only used as a last resort?

The staff are very polite and helpful. I stayed in one of the rooms of the old house and it was a decent sized room with a small kitchenette and nice bathroom (shower only). This location offers free wifi access, free light continental breakfast and a free guest laundry.

Public transport via bus is located literally at the front entrance and the local shopping centre is only a few minutes walk up the road.

I think I've reviewed about 12 hotels this year so far, the majority getting pretty good reviews because I use TA to decide where to stay. Of those reviews, there have been two so far with 5-stars. This is the first place that I've felt frustrated that there isn't a higher rating than 5.

IT REALLY IS THAT GOOD.

The space is about average for this kind of motel, but it's what the owners have done with the space that is so impressive. Every single fixture and fitting is perfect. Linen, accessories, toiletries, lighting, everything - you name it and they've got it spot-on.

My three main criteria; (a) Bed = perfect with a delicious electric blanket. (b) Shower = so powerful it actually hurt a little bit. (c) WiFi = Free & Fast.

Location was pretty useful, being only a short walk into the (sadly devastated) CBD. Merivale itself is a nice little suburb with some great bars and decent restaurants.

If it wasn't already good - I paid £73 a night - about 1/3rd the price for the woeful Sheraton in Singapore last month. Best place I've stayed in a long while.
