Having stayed here once before and having thoroughly enjoyed my stay, I was looking forward to returning.

The staff were very friendly, it was a bonus to have a continental breakfast included and the WIFI was great too.

Unfortunately, however, I was left a little disappointed with the quality of the unit. The bathroom sink had a large crack in it which had clearly been there for some time and part of the carpet had come away from the divider bordering the kitchen, which just looked shabby.

Would return, but would hope the units are going to be maintained to the standard that I had come to expect from a previous visit.

We stayed here at the spa studio. Room was just ok. Not much spacious. Though their kitchen was very much useful.

One advice... if possible don't go for studios here as its very close to the road and you might not get sound sleep.

We had the pleasure of staying in two room types at Merivale Manor, at the beginning and end of our two week stay in New Zealand. The first upstairs room was fantastic. Spacious, clean and warm and had everything we needed. We were very pleasantly surprised to receive complimentary breakfast. On our return we had booked the two bedroom downstairs front unit and were blown away with the size. Our very own small colonial house. Yes there were signs of earthquake damage as a previous reviewer has stated and this time the bathrooms were small, but this did not dampen our stay, and you don't spend a lot of time in a bathroom. Wayne and Karen and their dog Raffles were wonderful hosts. We would definitely stay again if we return to Christchurch. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Upstairs is quieter than down.

We recently stayed a night in an upstairs front room of the Manor. The room was beautifully furnished, spotlessly clean and we were impressed with the facilities, including beautiful bed linen, towels and a complimentary breakfast supplied. There was a heat pump in the room and a bathroom heater. The shower had excellent pressure with nice toiletries supplied. The hosts were very friendly and helpful giving us recommendations for vineyards to visit and also restaurants and cafes in nearby Merivale village and the City. We would definitely recommend staying here, Merivale village is a lovely place to stay, preferable to the City centre but still within walking distance.

This post is belated, but I wanted to write about how excellent our stay was at Merivale Manor in December 2013. We were two couples on a two-week road trip around New Zealand and stayed at various accommodations, and Merivale Manor ranked among the most impressionable. Wayne and Karen were fantastic hosts; while we only stayed there for one night they made sure we were comfortable and attended to our every need (and we really enjoyed chatting with them!). The location was convenient and near to good restaurants and amenities, and the rooms were clean, spacious, and comfortable. We highly recommend staying here!

Both service and location very good, our first stay on arrival in Christchurch was an upstairs unit in the Manor, which did have space , roomy kitchen area although the bathroom on the small side ( a basin but no side space) and returned a week later for one night before our flight. We were placed in a downstairs Manor unit, separate bedroom, but the bathroom exceptionally small and pokey, and still showing signs of earthquake damage. Bed linen, towels and furnishing/decor very good in both units, along with very abliging hosts. We would return should we go to Christchurch again, but definately specify not the downstairs back unit.

Everything was clean and good. Bed reasonably comfortable and supplied light breakfast set us on our way. Motel is a good location, close to Merivale village with restaurants and supermarket and a reasonable walk into earthquake-shattered centre. Owners very helpful and friendly.
However the spa suite we had was right next to road and traffic noise was very annoying, - especially from about 6am - and more particularly as we were suffering from jetlag after a lot of travelling. Also we came back one afternoon to find all the windows, front and back, open for airing (?) and with all our possessions still inside - so be aware!

Room Tip: NOT a room near the road.
