Arrived 1am, planned and advised, arrangements for key to be left in envelope on desk with name and room details on it. Had door code so got inside ok only to find no envelope had been left?
At1.30am we had to raise the proprietor from his bed, apparently he left the room key on the desk counter and it had been picked up by someone else without realising! Firstly, even if I had seen a key on the bench, I would not have taken it unless it had my booking details on it.
Second issue I had was the place was noisy at night, I could hear coughing from rooms down the hallway, loud footsteps and doors banging during the night when other guests came and went as well as the bathrooms were in no way soundproof..... we were told to make sure we closed the bathroom door when we showered so as not to set off the smoke detectors!

We are very sorry the guest was not satisfied with our Boutique Hotel.
Yes another guest in another room did pick up her envelope by mistake.
I did get up and made sure they were very comfortable and sincerely apologized.
I showed them how to secure the door with key and Security slide, in case someone tried to enter.
The Hotel was full that night and there was a National Rugby game on. Some guests did arrive home late and were just a bit noisy.
We tell all our guests that the Smoke detectors are very efficient and it pays to keep the bathroom door closed.
When these guests left I sincerely apologized again about their Key ( they said nothing about the noise?) They seemed happy. The husband told me he really enjoyed his stay.
As can be seen from the many great reviews this is a one off blunder. My utmost apologies to these guests.

The location of this Villa is fantastic if you wish to walk around this interesting city. Still recovering from the damage by the earthquake in February, 2011, the residents are moving on in a friendly positive manner.

The Classic Villa was very roomy, we had Room No. 1, at the front and it was beautifully furnished. The bathroom a little small, but adequate for the two of us.

The staff were very friendly and helpful. The continental breakfast was a huge spread of various foods from around the world.

Would definitely stay here again.

Room Tip: Room 1 "Elizabeth" was very nice.

We loved New Zealand so much after our first visit in 2009, we couldn't wait to return. This included visiting Christchurch again, even after the tragic earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. Just like the first time, we thoroughly enjoyed our time at the Classic Villa. Peter, and his assistant host Noni, made us feel completely at home. We were warmly welcomed after arriving on a Monday morning around 10:00 am, after a very long three-leg trip from Colorado, USA. We were shown to our room immediately, and were offered refreshments before deciding to explore the city (and the damaged downtown core). Later, evening refreshments (delicious wine and snacks) before we headed out to dinner.

On this trip, we actually arranged to head south to Dunedin to explore Otago and the Catlins for several days, before returning to Christchurch and the Villa for one night before departing to the North Island. Noni welcomed us back as two of her "boys"! Very charming, and made us feel just like we were coming home.

The room was just as beautiful and comfortable as ever (great bed, nicely equipped bathroom), and the refreshments and full breakfast the next morning were just as we remembered... outstanding.

We're so happy that the Villa has been able to hold on after the tragic events in Christchurch, and look forward to visiting the Villa again next time we stop in Canterbury to explore the coming redevelopment and rebuilding of the city center.

Room Tip: Rooms 1 and 2, premium rooms, are particularly comfortable. Room 2 is on the quietest side of the house.

We wouldnt normally have chosen this type of a accommodation but due to the distinct lack of available accommodation in Christchurch at the time of booking (in great demand due to the amount of local accommodation continuously booked for the ongoing reconstruction) so beggars couldn't be choosers in terms of CBD accommodation.

It is listed as a hotel, but It felt more like a B&B to me. Don't get me wrong it was a lovely place and the room was clean, comfortable with an oldy worldy charm but a really don't get on with that feeling of 'intruding' in someone else's 'home' and the whole everybody sits round the one big table for breakfast in the morning thing! (which is the case).

Unfortunately the 'intrusive' feeling experienced was exacerbated when we arrived quite late in the evening (10pm) after a long non stop drive down from Picton. The proprietor (Peter) saw fit to admonish us for not calling to advise the arrival time as he had to wait for us - Yes we were quite late and yes we could have called and even yes it did say to advise of late arrival on our internet booking receipt (which was all hassle free by the way) but still, We were tired and it wasn't the time ... whatever happened to the customer is always right!

Still the room was nice, warm and comfortable, high "old house" ceilings, nice decor, tiny but sparkling clean bathroom, and you could help yourself to complementary soft drinks from the kitchen fridge and there was a very nice complimentary decanter of Brandy and Sherry/Port in the hallway. The other 'odd' thing was the instruction we were given (by Peter) on showing us to the room, was to 'take off the pillow covers on the top pillows on the bed if we intended to use them' - "nail in the coffin" for us, we were glad we only booked for one night. The cold buffet style breakfast (round the big table with all the other guests) was nice enough though.

fyi - maybe it was down to the fact that the majority of the CBD was still closed off to reconstruction after the earthquake, but if you are arriving late in Christchurch, grab a bite to eat on the way as there was literally nowhere decent nearby to get dinner after 10pm (by decent I mean, not fast food)

My sincere apologies to ItlsWotitls.
As they say " I must have got out of bed the wrong way"
Our Reception does close at 7.30pm and we Email all guests directly, or through the Internet site they booked with, a Security Code to get in after this time.
As can be seen from the immediately previous two reviews, we really are pretty good here.
We look forward to welcoming all guests, no matter what time they arrive, we will welcome them at our delicious Mediterranean Breakfast in the morning.
Cheers!!

Our second stay here, after staying here 5 years ago, we vowed to return on this trip. Even though it's not the cheapest accommodation around, it certainly is the most enjoyable. We even brought friends along this time who also loved it!
We adored returning to this delightful Classic Villa for a night, accompanied by our infant son, who was well catered for with a portable cot and bedding. The staff were as lovely as we remembered, accommodating for our every need. The breakfast.. Oh the Breakfast!
This place is a great 'base camp' whilst in Christchurch as you can pop in and out during the day, then return to warm up by the fire with a cuppa and biscuits while listening to music, or tinkering on the piano.

Room Tip: bigger rooms are upstairs, best for families.
